2003年にリリースされたペット・ショップ・ボーイズの二枚組ベスト盤。当時アメリカでレコード会社との契約がなかったためUS盤は出なかったのだが、この度晴れてリリースされることになった。しかもUS盤独自の選曲で！

とは言え、収録曲自体に変化はない。違うのは全曲シングル・バージョンで収録されているということ。UK盤や日本盤では「ハート」が何故か地味なアルバムバージョンだったり、「いつもはこんな僕じゃない」がシングルともアルバムとも違う未発表バージョンだったりしたけど、今回は大丈夫。その上、このベスト盤からシングルカットされる際にリミックスされた「フランボヤント」もシングル・バージョンに差し替えてある。もう至れり尽くせり。

惜しむらくはやっぱり限定盤でいいから、ボーナスディスクを付けて欲しかったなあ。アメリカでのみ単独のシングルリリースだった「ハウ・キャン・ユー・エクスペクト・トゥ・ビー・テイクン・シリアスリィ？（UKでは「ウェア・ザ・ストリーツ・ハヴ・ノー・ネーム」と両A面）」とか、アメリカのクラブチャートで一位になった「ブレイク・４・ラヴ（UKでは「ホーム・アンド・ドライ」のB面）」、ドイツでのみシングルカットの「ロンドン」、チャリティ企画シングルの「アブソルートリー・ファビュラス」、グラミー賞のベストリミックス部門にノミネートされた「トウ・ステップ・アサイド」のリミックス（アメリカでは「セ・ア・ヴィダ・エ」との両A面扱い）や、前のベスト盤「ディスコグラフィー」からシングルカットされた「ワズ・イット・ワース・イット？」など、ベスト盤に入ってて欲しい曲は結構あったので。

まあでも、意図不明なバージョン違いが修正されて、やっと本来あるべき形になってリリースされることが素直に嬉しい。フランス盤も「パリ・シティ・ボーイ」目当てに買っちゃった人間としてはやはり買いでしょう、と。

2003年作ベスト版。ヒットシングル中心のツカミのイイ曲を中心にした"Pop"サイドと、
美メロを主体にし、少し落ち着いた曲が並ぶ"Art"サイドの２枚組。彼らの主要な楽曲は
ほぼ全て網羅されてるのではないでしょうか。その点でコストパフォーマンスが非常に高い
作品だと思います。

通しで聞くと、まず1枚目の#1-1〜1-7のヒットのオンパレードで、まず気持ちも耳もガッと
鷲掴みにされてしまいます。あとは一気。ただ繰返し聞き込んでいくと、
最初Popサイド寄りだった思い入れは、だんだんArtサイドの方に移って行きます。
#2-2,#2-3,#2-5,#2-7,#2-8,#2-13等の響きがだんだん心地よくなっていきます。

全35曲でかなりのボリュームですが、これだけ棄てなしで曲を揃えられること自身、
彼らが20年もの間ポップの一線級で活躍してきたことの証明でもあります。

このＣＤ，非ＣＣＣＤですので、レビューの英文とは違います。ご安心を。
やはり、ＰＳＢ、そのポップセンスには脱帽です。
