　ジュリーニのデビューは1944年６月、第二次大戦後のローマ解放の記念コンサートでした。母校の聖チェチーリア音楽院管弦楽団を指揮して演奏したのがブラームスの４番。この成功により地元の放送交響楽団の音楽監督へと順調に階段を上っていくわけですから、４番は彼にとっては忘れ得ない「出世作」と言えます。ウイーン・フィルは興が乗れば、ブラームスでレベル以下の演奏の筈はあり得ません。彼らにとって、ブラームスはベートーヴェンとともに確固たる「ウイーン・フィルブランド」だからです。その両者の組み合わせなのですから期待が持てるのは当然でしょう。
　しかし、この演奏はそうした予測を超えて「金字塔」を建てる名演となりました。オケが全ての音を細大漏らさず聴き、集中して一つに合わせていく丹念な積み上げ、遅いテンポのなかにこれ以上、しなやかで豊かな表情つけは難しいくらいの感情移入。ジュリーニの解釈に、鷹揚としつつも、求心力を決して失わない優れた構成力があるからでしょう。「よし、それを完全に実現してやろう！」とウイーン・フィルも一肌脱いでいます。４番の歴史に残る名盤だと思います。

すばらしいの一言です。
ブラームスの４番はいろいろ持ってますが、この演奏がダントツで好きです。
スローテンポにかかわらず弛緩せず、またウィーンフィルの弦が美しい･･･
ジュリーニの精神が細部にまで行き渡り、流石としかいいようがありません。

この演奏を通して一番強く感じるのが「流れ」です。
柔らかくて、突発的でなく、本当に流れるようです。
またこの演奏がこの価格で手に入るというのがアンビリーバブル。
今お持ちのブラームスに満足している方もそうでない方も、是非購入されたい。

ジュリーニ先生最後のブラームス全集より。いつものジュリーニ先生らしく、しなるような構築、抑制したテンポからにじみ出るスケール感、沁み入るカンタービレ、と非の打ちどころがあらへん。4番はシカゴ盤以来でしたから、ホンマ、ええタイミングで録音してくださった。

4番、悲劇的序曲のカンタービレを聴いとると、痩せて凛としてジュリーニ先生の指揮姿が目に浮かぶようで、当時の楽員が演奏中、感動の余り涙で楽譜が見えんようになった、という話が凡人のわてにもよう分かる
