オリジナル楽器全盛の現在、いまや忘れられつつある盲目のオルガニスト、ヴァルヒャのバッハです。

非常に地味です。コープマンあたりの生き生きとした演奏に比べて色彩感に乏しいので、ちょっと聴いただけでは魅力を感じない方も多いと思います。

でもこのパッサカリアはぜひじっくり聴いて下さい。重く静かに始まる低音主題、おずおずと遠慮がちに乗せられる第一変奏。今風の演奏に慣れた耳には「何これ？」と聞こえることでしょう。
しかし曲はいつしか壮大な高みに登りつめていきます。クライマックスで渾身の悲しみをこめて歌われる第１主題がなんと美しい響き！

この曲の「気高い精神性」を深く表現した名演だと思います。

　しゃんと背筋の伸びたたたずまいが好ましいヘルムート・ヴァルヒャのオルガン。その演奏から、こんこんと湧き上がるバッハの音楽の生命感が、よく伝わってきました。
　なかでも、主題と20の変奏からなる「パッサカリアとフーガ　ハ短調　BWV582」に感動したなあ。荘厳で、揺るぎない音楽が、まるで夜空の星々のようにちかちかと瞬き、めぐって行く様は、本当に素晴らしいものでした。
　もう一曲、「トッカータ、アダージョとフーガ　ハ長調　BWV564」のトッカータの音楽も気に入りました。ここでは、バッハの軽やかな音楽の煌めきに酔いましたね。この曲には、ブゾーニのピアノ編曲版を弾いたホロヴィッツの演奏（1965年、カーネギー・ホールでのコンサート）もあって、それもいいんですよ。

あまりに病的、深淵に臨むような旋律だこと

性を抑制することは宇宙の軸から外れるってことさ

それを抽象的な悲壮バラードって呼ぶ奴がいるけどさ

それじゃあまりに呪術的じゃない

健康な深淵に挑む奴ほど狂気染みてるとか言う奴がいるけど

それじゃバッハの感性はBGMに過ぎないことになるだろ？

いっそ争いの土壇場に紛れて焼失して欲しい

過去そのものだな。
