１０月から始まったＴＶアニメ「パンプキン・シザース」のオープニングテーマ。
歌うは、エヴァンゲリオンＯＰ曲「残酷な天使のテーゼ」でおなじみの高橋洋子さん。
作曲は、劇場版エヴァンゲリオン主題歌「魂のルフラン」やＴＶアニメ灼眼のシャナＥＤ曲「夜明け生まれ来る少女」を担当した大森俊之氏。
躍動感あふれるアップテンポな曲に印象深い歌メロで洋子さんの力強いボーカルが吼える！
そう、今回のこの曲はまさに「吼える」ボーカルという感じです。
歌メロも独特の節回しが健在で私が期待したとおり印象深いものに仕上がってます。
まさに、「洋子節」炸裂です。
高橋洋子ファンはもちろん、「魂のルフラン」や「夜明け生まれ来る少女」のメロディが好きな方にも安心してオススメできる一曲です。

これほどしっくりくるテーマ曲も近年珍しいです。
正直言いますと放映中のアニメ版は今一つな出来です。
しかしこの曲は素晴らしい！
聴いていると原作マンガの「熱い」展開が脳裏を駆け巡ります。
恐らく高橋洋子氏は原作本をよく読まれた上で曲作りをされたのではないかと思います。
一番の歌詞では「蒼き炎」オーランド伍長を、二番では「高貴なる炎」アリス少尉を見事に歌い上げています。

楽曲の印象としては、
　・Aメロが同音連続→分散和音という器楽的なフレーズ
　・ブリッジがメロディアスで音程差が大きい
　・サビはシンプルで力押し
という、いままでの高橋ソングには余りなかったタイプの曲。
はっきり言ってI've系のスタイル、特に「ひぐらし」あたりの影響を感じます。作曲者の大森俊之は、90年代のキングレコード関連作品で一世を風靡した作家ですが、本作ではかなり「今どきのアニソン」を意識しているのかな、と。

その試みが成功しているか、と言えば微妙なのですが、まあ高橋御大の圧倒的な歌唱力が、小さな不満を全て吹き飛ばしてしまっています。もうこの方は歌手として、美空ひばりレベルの「何を歌っても名曲にしてしまう」段階に近づきつつあるような気すらします。

御自身のオリジナルアルバムでは、比較的おだやかなヒーリング系の楽曲を好む高橋さんですが、このシングルでは一転して激しい咆哮、それも並のロックシンガーには真似出来ないほどの見事なシャウトを決めています。この日本最高レベルの歌唱力、表現力を味わうだけでも、CDの代金の元は充分とれるでしょう。「シャウト・叫びにも上手い下手があるんだ」という事が、このシングルを聞くとよ〜く実感できます。

本人は嫌がるかもしれませんが、一度ハードロックアルバムを作ったら面白いと思います。彼女なら、日本のアン・ウィルソン（Heart）になれるはず。
