新興のレーベルMUTURE COMMUNICATIONSが送る期待の3人組がシャーン・ノースだ。プロデューサーには、日本のポップス界を引張って来たYAMAHA出身の鈴木“リカ”徹を起用した。ボーカルの声質、音域の広さ、声の抜けの良さは、万人ウケする事間違いナシ。確かにここまでクリアで綺麗な声質を持つシンガーはそうザラにはいない。また少し控えめすぎた感じもするが、ギターの奏でるフレーズは短いながらもセンスの良さを感じる。各楽曲のメロディーも良く、作曲者の抽斗の多さを感じる。ただ、比較的若い層を狙ったメッセージの歌詞が多い割にはアレンジに凝りすぎた傾向があり、結果的に「言葉」がうまく届ききれていないのが残念だ。ちょっと音楽的すぎた事が災いしてしまったようだ。全体的にヨーロッパ系の色が濃くアイリッシュや北欧を意識したアレンジの曲もあるが、これらとメッセージ性のある歌詞とがうまく噛合っていないように感じる。現在この手のメッセージソングが百花繚乱というくらい多い中で今後どういう手法で頭ひとつ抜け出して行くのか、プロデューサーの手腕が問われるところだろう。さしたる才能もないのに売れているシンガーやバンドも多いが、このグループはベーシックな部分の才能を有しているのは間違いない。何とか花開いてもらいたいものだ。期待したい。

シングルで知って、アルバムが出たということで試聴して良かったので買ってみたSeanNorthの1stアルバムですが・・・「ホントに1st！？」と思ってしまうほど素晴らしく、デビューして2ヶ月で出したとは思えない出来です。
和が漂う「線香花火」「言葉ひとつ」「千年樹」、素晴らしい歌唱が聞ける「夢見るジョニー」、壮大なバラードである「七つめの海」などなど、全体的に民族楽器とストリングスがふんだんに使われている楽曲・伸びやかな煌びやかなLumiの歌唱・適度に挿入されていて良いアクセントとなっているムーチョのギター・・・まさにこのバンドにしか出来ない「絶妙すぎる」バランスと独特の雰囲気により、全体的にゆっくりめの曲が多いのに最初から最後までダレること無く聞けて、聞けば聞くほど良さが分かってきます!
個人的に、2006年のアルバムの中で一番驚かされたアルバムです・・・

　ひさびさに「ジャケ買い」し、いい意味で期待を裏切ってくれた作品。

　透き通ったボーカルの声質を、最高に引き出す爽やかなメロディーライン。
　その中に軽く紛れ込ませた 言葉の小さな棘も、あとからじわじわと効いてくる感じでいい。

　レビュワーとしては悔しいが、たぶん 細かく言葉でレビューするよりも、ジャケットの絵の方が、曲の世界感を正しく伝えてくれるだろう。

　ジャケットの絵を通して、心に湧いた雰囲気。
　それが そのままスピーカーから空に広がり包んでいく。

　この一枚は、きっとあなたの期待も いい意味でしっかりと裏切ってくれるだろう。

　唯一 欠点をいえば、コード進行がやや先人達の作品に似すぎている点か。
　4,5音だけで、コード丸々というわけではないのだが、「ん、これ聴いたことがあるような…」という点を、ちらほらと感じてしまう。
　まぁ…、曲作りをするとどうしても、無意識でどこかで聴いた音が起点となるから、ある意味仕方無いとはいえる。

　多くの人が言っているように、きっと まだまだ伸びる可能性を秘めていそうだ。
　今は「型」に はまった構成の歌ばかりだが、その｢型｣が弾けたときにどのような音楽を届けてくれるだろうか……潜在的なオリジナリティが発揮された時に、大化けしそうな予感がする。
　今 私が一番 楽しみにしている注目株である。
