<ストーリー>
第二次大戦も末期の1945年2月。連合軍のベルリン侵略を恐れた独軍は、ライン河に架かる橋を次々と破壊。そして最後の橋、レマゲン鉄橋にも爆薬を設置した。一方ベルリンを目指す連合軍もこの橋に到達。最後の橋を賭けた両軍の行き詰まる攻防戦が始まった!

第二次世界大戦、連合軍対ドイツ軍の最後の攻防で有名なのはバルジ大作戦ですね。
あの映画も大好きなのですが、このレマゲン鉄橋も良い映画の一本です。
主演は0011ナポレオン・ソロ（ご存知の方は、そこそこ年輩ですね）で一躍有名になったロバート・ヴォーンです。
レイヴァンのサングラスをかけ黒いレザーのコート、少し斜めにした将校の帽子姿は
格好良いの一言につきます。
全編アクションの連続で映画最初に登場するアメリカ軍のM24チャーフィの爆走シーンは
今でも鮮明に焼き付いているぐらいにインパクト大です。
共演しているジョージ・シーガルとかベン・ギャザラが良い味出しています。
登場する装甲車や車両にはマニアにはたまらないものがあるのも、
この映画が人気の理由です。
全く余談な話ですが、この映画のテーマ曲がテレビの黄金伝説で濱口優が海に潜って漁を行うシーンに使われています、

映画が映画らしかった時代の良さがオープニングでわかります。
一人一人の個性が描かれた映画です。それに一般市民の描かれている戦争アクションは
まれなのでは！
最後の主役二人のやり取りもよく隠れたお勧め映画です。
エルマーバーンスタインの音楽も。

　レマゲン鉄橋は連合軍のドイツ中央部への進入口。ブロック司令官は、上層部の爆破命令にそむいて、友軍の撤退が終了するまで確保することにした。クルーガー少佐（ロバート・ヴォーン）が着任してみると守備隊はわずかで、悲観せざるをえない状況だった。
　ここからの彼の奮闘がひとつの物語である。クルーガーは上官の命令にしたがって鉄橋の防衛につとめるが、米軍の圧倒的な火力には抵抗できない。最後に爆薬を仕掛けるが不発におわり、任務をおこたったとして銃殺刑になる。
　一方、米軍はハートマン中尉（ジョージ・セガール）の中隊が先遣隊にえらばれた。彼もまた無定見な上官にほんろうされて多くの部下を失う。映画は鉄橋の攻防をていねいに撮ってリアルな場面が多い。見所は橋の上の銃撃戦に集中している。しかし、両軍の戦術の混乱や人間関係は突込みが足りない。戦争映画としては平均点をやゝ上回ったていどだではないか。
