1973年3月の発売ですから、フォークブームの絶頂の頃です。
日本のレコード史上で始めてミリオンセラーを打ちたてたアルバムでした。確かに名曲揃いですね。今聴いても古さを全く感じさせないアルバムです。
レコードを必死になって聴いたせいで、収録曲のほとんどを３０年経った今でも歌うことができます。若い頃、楽譜を買って一生懸命練習した賜物かもしれません。

星勝のアレンジが冴え渡る「帰れない二人」の伸びやかな高音は、ハッとするほど惹き込まれる魅力を内在していました。「心もよう」や「小春おばさん」のようなどこかセンチメンタルな気団に浸る曲は、陽水の真骨頂だったように思います。そして「氷の世界」のスピード感溢れる曲と少しシュールな詩の取り合わせが、印象的でしたね。

７曲目の「自己嫌悪」は、その歌詞に使われている言葉によって、制作会社がひととき自主規制をしたため、聴けなくなっていました。差別を生み出す土壌は問題ですが、芸術作品における「言葉狩り」は、表現の幅を狭くする恐れがあります。このＣＤでは、発売当初同様、全てを聴くことができるようになって幸いですが・・・。

「白い一日」の小椋佳と陽水の歌いまわしの違いが当時とても新鮮でした。どちらの声も魅力的ですが、内面の淋しさを声にのせられると言う意味で貴重な歌手ですね。その魅力的な声は、３０年経ってもちっとも衰えていないのが不思議です。

これだけ個性溢れる曲がつまっているアルバムはないでしょうね。「永遠の名作アルバム」でしょう。

初期の陽水のベストアルバムでは聞けない曲、
「チエちゃん」と「小春おばさん」を聞くために本アルバムを購入。
30年前はアルバム全体を包むセンチメンタルな気配が嫌いだったが、
でも何かの拍子にはこれらの歌を口ずさんでいたし、
そのせいか今でも断片を口ずさむほどなじんではいた。

そして、あらためて全曲を聞いた感想は、
やはり、陽水は天才！
本アルバムは陽水の初期の傑作！！
であることを再認識した。

井上陽水は声がいい。うらやましいほど。特にこの頃の陽水の声は音域が広く，つやがあり，伸びやかで無理がない。私としてはセカンドアルバムがもっとも好みだが，声の完成度としてはこのアルバムがもっともいいと思う。アップテンポのものからしっとりしたものまで曲もバラエティだ。このアルバムのあとは歌詞も曲もプロフェッショナルになってしまいちょっと懲りすぎかなと思えてしまうが，このアルバムまでは素人ぽいみずみずしさが残っていて，ちょっと青臭い恥ずかしいような内容の詩が残っているが，それが余計よい。
