ティム・バックリーは６０年代後半から７０年代前半に活躍した、スケールの大きい美声のシンガーソングライター。本作品は彼の２枚目で代表作。分野的には６０年代のサイケデリックに分類されているが、彼の作品は同時代人だけでなく、後世のジャンルの異なるさまざまなアーチスト達にも取り上げられていることからも、その美的世界は普遍的なきらめきを放っているといえる。彼の作品やパフォーマンス（死後いろいろなライブ未発音源が発掘された）は時期によって、かなり違う。私は、彼の残した全ての作品が好きだが、特に１枚目と２枚目は詩情色豊かで、内省的な内容だが、不思議な陶酔感があり、いったんハマると抜け出せないような強烈な魅力がある。じっくり歌を聴き込みたい人にはお勧めします。
