ギターとピアノが織り成す調べに酔い痴れることができるCD。
時に清流がほとばしるような、時にしみじみとかたりかけてくるような
・・・そんな音楽。
メセニー節は随所に健在であり、メルドーのピアノも素晴らしい。
これからの季節にお洒落な一時を演出してくれる
一枚だと思う。
ジャズファンの方以外にも是非聞いていただきたい。

２００５年１２月にNYで録音。プロデュースはパット・メセニー。
個人的にはトリオ演奏など、正統派なJAZZをやるメセニーはあまりぱっとしないという気持ちが強かった。ジョン・スコフィールドとの競演や近年のトリオ作品でもジャズらしい部分を支えているのは相手や他のメンバーで、彼自身のギターが主旋律を取る演奏は、スタンダードなジャズとしては繊細すぎて腰の強さや安定感に欠けていると思うところがあったので、実際に聴くまで今までの延長線かなと疑心暗鬼に思う部分が多々あった。私はPMGの作品は大好きだが、某ジャズ評論家の「メセニーはフュージョン畑の人で、無理にジャズをやりに来なくてよい」という意見はあながち間違っていないと思っている。

しかし今回はブラッド・メルドーの貢献が非常に大きい。時には太く、時には繊細にとピアノのトーンを使い分けてビル・エヴァンスから続く正統派のジャズの地盤と空気を作り出している。ゆったりと寄せては返すさざなみのように、エヴァンスやBN期のハービー・ハンコックのような優雅なオフビートがものの見事に弾けていて、メセニーが自由に自分のスタイルでギターを弾ける空間的な余裕を創造し、演出している。作曲はメセニー作が多いが、本作の演奏がジャズというフォーマットで安心して聴くことができるのは完璧にメルドーのおかげである。
そのせいでメセニーもリラックスしたのか、今となっては懐かしい、デビュー前後のECM初期のような瑞々しいフレーズがところどころに顔を出す。ファンが望み、歓迎する音色のギターを自由自在に弾いている。リスナーはこういう作品を待っていたという気にさせる作品だ。

ちなみに、二人はアルバムもう一枚分の収録をすでに終えているとのこと。いつ出るのかとても楽しみだ。２００７年の秋にはツアーも予定しているそうなので、日本に来てくれることを是非首を長くして待ちたい。

まず、ジャケットのセンスがヨカデス。音楽の方は心地よいα波が出とリ増す。夕方から、深夜にかけての時間帯がこれを聴くには最適と思われます・・　ジャケットじゃけど、ちょこっとビックリするかな？
