当時LPを擦り切れんばかりに聴きまくったアルバムで、そのころ思春期だった中高生はたちまち大人になりMSGやレインボーといった日本人受けハードロックを「お子様向け」などと言っては離れていった。が、とくにマイケル･シェンカーのギターワークがいかに優れており情緒豊かなものであったのかはこの時代だからこそ懐古的な感情を排除して冷静に再評価したいところ。硬派なリフに確実なソロ、それにゲイリー･バーデンの扇情的な歌唱がひとつの塊となって、今でも他では聴くことの出来ない素晴らしいロックアルバムとなっている。スコーピオンズで有名になるもジャンキーとなってしまいその治療後に復帰し鳴り物入りとともに再登場せしめた自身のソロ作に近い本作はマイケル･シェンカーという天才ギタリストのその後を大いに期待させた。だがその作曲能力とアンサンブルの美しさは自作までが限界で、グラハム・ボネットを迎えての『ASSAULT ATTACK』における「デザート・ソング」などで感じられる平凡さに始まりその後発表される一連の駄作により初期のファンは去ってしまった。『神』と『神話』における神業はもう聴くことが不可能になってしまった。ツェッペリンやジェフ・ベックの作品はいまでも良く聴く連中がなぜこれら初期のMSGを聴かなくなったのか、いささか疑問だ。

当時のアナログを持っていますが帯のデザインが全然違います。
リリースする側のこだわりも愛情も感じられない中途半端な『紙ジャケ』で
2600円も取るのはご勘弁。

あ、リマスターの効果も含めて中身は文句の付けようもない名盤なので
聴いた事の無い方は通常ケースの中古を安く買った方が良いかもね。
