１曲目『She Does It Right』におけるウィルコ・ジョンソンのソリッドで切れ味抜群のギターを聴いただけで，そのあまりの格好良さに圧倒されてしまうアルバムですが，日本では当初パンク系のアルバムとして紹介されていたんですよね。確かにパンクとも通じる部分があるサウンドですが，ジャケットに並んでいるむさ苦しいオッサン面を見れば，彼等がパンク・バンドでないことは一目瞭然です(^^;)。これはキッズ向けのパンクではなく，キッズ達にも受ける大人の音楽なのです。このアルバムが発売された当時の曲の多くが今聴くと妙に古臭く感じるのに，当時としては古臭さかったはずのこのサウンドが逆に古臭さを感じないのは，これが時代を超越した魅力のあるサウンドだからなんでしょうね。

　1970年代のBritish Rockを代表する名盤である。リー・ブリローの迫力満点のダミ声とウイルコ・ジョンソンのカッティング・ギター奏法が見事に調和している。あまたのLed Zeppelinコピー・ハードロック・バンドとは違う路線を歩み、英国伝統のＲ＆Ｂをパンク前夜に開花させた。カバー曲も渋い。
　この後、ウイルコ・ジョンソンのカッティング・ギター奏法は、Gang Of Fourのアンディ・ギルが継承し、彼らの１stで結実する。

パブロックの王道、その後に繋がるパンクスの元祖なのかもしれないけど、いやいや、音楽的にはかなり凝ろうとしているのが良く分かるし、WILKOがいたためここまでソリッドになってるように感じます(バンドの方向感としてはコステロの感じだったのかなと今となっては思っています)。
とにかく、DR.FEELGOODはWILKO JHONSON在籍時につきますな。ソリッド、カミソリみたいな切れ味なのにゴムまりのような柔らかさも兼ね備えていて、こんなギター弾ける人他にいません。その後ソロプロジェクトも出してますが、う〜ん、やっぱりこれかな。デビュー作にして最高傑作ではないでしょうか。
特にギターを手に取られる方、必聴ですヨ。モノラル録音なんて気にしない、気にしない！1曲目なんか似たような曲やってるバンドもあったけど、絶対こんな感じにならないですもんね。
