平凡な中古家具屋の店長が、車を運転中のトラブルで発作的な怒り
に駆られて相手のドライバーを殺してしまう。その時に助手席に乗
っていた相手の男の恋人を自分の車のトランクに監禁し、普段通り
の生活を送ろうとする…というストーリーです。

このＤＶＤはホラーのコーナーに『変態村』と並べて置いてありま
したが、『変態村』とは何の関係もないし、この作品はホラーとい
うよりサスペンス、あるいはスリラーだと思います。

車のトランクに女を監禁し、その車に頻繁に家族が乗っている、と
いうちょっと無理のある設定ですが、人間ドラマとしてもスリラー
としても優れた作品だと感じました。

最後に邦題の件ですが、少しでも工夫をしてＤＶＤを売らなければ
ならない事情は察しますが、さすがに『普通の男』という原題に対
し『変態男』はないだろうと。
この作品の主人公に変態的な要素はほとんどありませんし、優れた
映画だと思うだけにこの邦題には怒りをおぼえました。

タイトルが「変態男」とありますが、ジャケットをよく見ると「Ordinary Man」と書いていますね。
そう、原題は「変態男」ではなく「平凡男」なのです。
バス男並の便乗タイトルで安っぽい感じがしますな。

映画では確かに主人公に変態臭が漂っていますが、平凡な男の狂気を描いた映画です。

恐いのは相手が誰かわからない最初の数分だけですね
ここらへんはスピルバーグの「激突」みたいな感じです

その後は監禁モノになります
このあたりからは犯人が「普通の切れやすいだけのどんくさいおっちゃん」だとわかってしまうんで
全く恐くなくなります
計画性や賢い対処法なんかも全然なく
行き当たりばったりに監禁し続けるおっちゃん
喜劇なのかよくわからないまま
「こんないいかげんで、どうなっちゃうのかなー」と気になっちゃって、それだけで最後まで見ちゃいますね
そして、悲劇が勃発！
しかし、何故か、ご都合主義的ハッピーエンド！そりゃねーよ・・・
確かに監禁モノではよくあるパターンやけど、あまりにも子供がかわいそう過ぎる
ベルギー人はこういう風に割り切って生きてるんですかねぇ・・・

メイキングで主人公のおっちゃんがギャラなしとか言ってたんで、超低予算なんでしょうね
そのわりには見れましたが、人間の掘り下げ方がいまいちで、ラストがちょっと強引に感じるところがおしいですね
