元々オフブロードウェイから始まった作品。内容は同性愛・貧困・エイズ等重たいのですが、
音楽が非常にすばらしく、その重たさを感じさせません。DVDでも持っているのですが、ブルーレイのチャンネルセパレーションはいいですね。実際の舞台を見ているようでした。

まず表記の誤りがあります。2層（50GB） MPEG-2　です。
「RENT」はオフ・ブロードウェイで幕を開け、瞬く間にオン・ブロードウェイに進出しトニー賞で最優秀作品賞、最優秀脚本賞、最優秀オリジナル作曲賞、最優秀助演男優を受賞ました。脚本・作曲・演出を手がけたジョナサン・ラーソンは開幕前に胸部大動脈瘤破裂によって35歳の若さで急逝してしまったのです。「RENT」 は、現代都市社会のさまざまな若者の生き方を基調としてます。エスニック マイノリティ (少数民族)、セクシャル マイノリティー (性的少数者)、麻薬中毒や HIV などいった、それまでの主流派ミュージカルではあまり取り上げられることのなかった人々や題材を幅広く取り上げている点でも画期的な作品です。５２万５６００分。何の数字だと思いますか？
一年＝３６５日を、分で換算した数です。冒頭の♪「Seasons Of Love」の中の歌詞です。
525,600分　52万5600分もの貴重な時間　52万5600分ある一年、何を目安に計ろうか？
迎える夜明けの数？日暮れ？真夜中の数で？
それともいつもの何杯ものコーヒーで？
インチ、マイル、笑い、争いで計ればいい？・・・
52万5600分、人生の中の一年、何を目安に計ろうか？
愛はどうだろう 愛を目安に計ろうか？それで計るのはどうだろうか？・・・と謳います。
ラーソンの意思を継いだオリジナルキャストが数名そのままの役で演じています。
何曲かカットされているのが惜しいですね。

プッチーニのオペラ「ラ・ボエーム」にヒントを得たんだそうですが，言われてみれば，ミミが火を貸してくれと現れるあたりで，おぉー似ている，と思います。
しかし，こちらは，エイズや同性愛等の現代的な重いテーマをしょっていて，初めて映画館で見たときには，これは何度も見るには重いな，と思いました。
･･･が，冒頭のSeasons of Love のメロディが頭に残っていて，
どうしてももう一度見たくなり，今回，ブルーレイを買ってしまいました。
リニアPCM5.1サラウンドのリアリティはすごいです。
うちのホームシアターはエントリーモデルで大したもんではありませんが，
それでも大迫力を堪能しました。
遅まきながら，このミュージカルはすごい！と気付き，歌中心に何度も見てます。
今月の来日公演も行かなければ！
ちなみに，このディスクには，
本編にクリス・コロンバスとアンソニー・ラップ，アダム・パスカルによる解説バージョンが付いていますし，
なんと２時間にもわたるドキュメンタリー「レント，誕生の軌跡」が付いてます。
ジョナサン・ラーソンの子供時代から，公演直前の急死，映画化までを
彼の家族，友人，オリジナル・キャストでもあるアンソニー・ラップらが語りつぐもので，
特典映像なのに本編と同じくらい長いよ･･･と思いながらも，つい見入って泣いてしまいました。
