英国の詩人Ted Hughesの原作による作品です。
彼の妻Sylvia Plathの死後、幼い子供達のために彼は児童文学も手がけるようになった。
悲しみに包まれている子供達のために彼は、子供向けの詩や物語を書いた。
彼の代表作でもあるこの作品は、父として子供達に伝えたいことが織り込まれている。
彼の愛する自然へのおもい、子供が持つ純真な心、優しさ。
少年とロボットの交流は心温められ、愚かな大人たちの振る舞いには一人の大人として考えさせられます。
子供も大人も楽しみながらも、考えさせてくれる良い物語です。
映像も、今時ではなく落ち着いて見られます。

突如宇宙より飛来した、自分が何者なのかわからないロボットと、それを発見した少年のココロあたたまるストーリー。
大人から子供まで、家族みんなで楽しめます。
ありがちなストーリーながら、わかっていても泣いてしまいます。
幼い子供のようなロボットが、自分の正体を知った時・・・。
ぜひ観てください。そして感動してください。

これは文句なしに心を揺さぶられる映画です。
お子さんの居られる方はぜひ親子でご覧いただきたい。
で、そういう作品だから、毒も何も無い退屈な映画だと思った人、それは大間違い。この映画には、ハートが、そして、救いがある。
宇宙のどこかの星から墜落してきた戦闘用ロボット。表情の微妙な表現とかデザインは秀逸です。
メカニックの表現は、最新のSFアニメにひけをとらないです。
そして、主役となる少年、そしてその母親の性格設定の確かさ。
決して、ステロタイプな性格設定ではなく、こういう家庭環境だから、お母さんはがんばりやさんだし、反面弱いところもある、そして、そういうお母さんに育てられた少年はこういう感じになる、という描写が見事です。
さらに、少年とロボットの出会いから友情を結ぶまでの経過描写が、丁寧でいちいち納得できます。
最初は、恐くて驚く。次は恐がりつつも危害を加えないと知る。そして、コミュニケーションが出来るとわかり、次第に「心」で結ばれていく。見事です。
