表に現れる情熱や疾走感はこのアルバムでは見られないが、クラシックギターの持つ美しく繊細な響き、優しさと懐かしさを感じさせる音色、それでいてちゃんと木村大だと思わせる演奏を聴くことが出来る。
大島ミチルのアレンジでの曲では、アンサンブルが前面に出ていながらきちんとギターの音が感じられ、こう来たか！という想定外も楽しい。
いわゆるクラシック音楽の枠に捕われずクラシックギターの魅力を伝えていこうとする木村大の思いが、イギリスの400年以上の時の幅を舞台に演じられる、一枚のアルバムに凝縮された名盤だと思う。

一聴、アレンジがお粗末だと、まさに“駿馬”も駄馬になるの見本みたいなアルバムだが、それでも時々取り出しては聞きたくなるから不思議だ。木村のギターをたっぷり聞きたいから腹が立つのであって、オーケストラ曲に木村が特別参加していると割り切れば良い。なぜ時々聞きたくなるのかは明白だ。少ない音数ではあるが、その一音一音はまるで歌手が歌っているのではないかと錯覚させるくらい美しく輝いているからだ。少ないだけに、聞こえる音すべてが珠玉のように光っている。大島ミチルがそこまで考えてアレンジしたならすごいが、おそらくそうではないだろう。失礼な言い方だが、演奏者よりも忙しい売れっ子アレンジャーが楽譜を十分埋める間もなく時間切れとなり、やむなく見切り発車をしたのだろう。皆さん(おそらくはこのCDを買った木村ファン全員)の総意として、少なくとも「天国への階段」だけでもアレンジし直して、書籍ではないが「増補改訂版」を出してもらいたいものだ。木村の他のCDを☆5つとすればせいぜい☆3つがいいところだが、弟とのデュエットは抜群に素晴らしいし(特に「ロンドンの街々」を収録してくれたことに感謝)、上記「改訂版」にわずかな期待をかけて、☆4にした。

クラッシックの編曲でどうなるのか？4曲目の天国への階段を聴きたくて買いました。
でも、この曲は期待外れでした。原曲のイントロ〜導入部の繰り返しです。
Ooh, It makes me wonder ,のフレーズ以降の分部は演奏されません(ーー;)

１-５まではガットギターの魅力に欠けると思います。オーケストラのアレンジが濃いです。
弟さんの裕君と競演の6曲目以降はギターの魅力が出ていると思います。どっちを本人が弾いているのかは判りません。
