ラマタムはブルース・イメージ/アイアン･バタフライのマイク･ピネラ、ジミ・ヘンドリックス･エクスペリエンスのミッチ･ミッチェルが中心となって72年に結成された。この当時有名バンド出身者が新バンドを作ると、よくスーパー・グループと呼ばれて注目された。ラマタムの場合はさらに、当時珍しい女性ギタリストが参加していたこともあって評判を集めた。エイプリル･ロートンという洒落た名前で、それまでのキャリアなどは全く不明だが、ギター・テクが凄まじくおまけに美人ということで話題になった。
サウンドの基本線としてはハード・ロックだが、ファンク、ポップス、フォーク、ジャズのごった煮状態。前途洋々たる新グループということで、全員前に出ようと競い合っている様子がうかがえる。これがアルバムに緊張感と力強さをもたらしているようだ。特に印象に残るのは、マイク･ピネラのアクの強いボーカル。そして、エイプリル･ロートンのドライビング・ギターが素晴らしい。いわゆる早弾き系なのだが無味乾燥なフレーズは一切出てこない。張り切りすぎて少し上ずっている印象もあるが、そこがまたスリリングでセクシー。マイク･ピネラとのツイン・リードのハーモニーもカッコよい。
個人的な感想としては、代表曲とされる(1)ものっけからワクワクさせてくれて大好きだが、ロマンチックな(4)(6)が良かった。昔ＬＰを聴きながらよく一緒に歌っていたので、歌詞をすぐ思いだしてまた口ずさんだ。甘酸っぱいねぇ。

こんだけ長くロックに付き合っていると、いろいろな結成、解散を繰り広げるグループの動きの中で、次第に消えて行った面々がいる。当然残る面々もいるわけですが・・。これはどちらかといえばどんどん影が薄くなっていった連中の残り火的作品。ジミヘンのミッチ・ミッチェル、ブルース・イメージのマイク・ピネラ・・・まあ当時は大物（僕は実力のほどは信用してませんでしたが）です。この２人に当時ではほんまに珍しい女性リードギタリストであったエイプリル・ロートン。話題性十分。まあ可も無く不可も無くの出来かと思います。もともとジミヘンの感動をミッチ・ミッチェルに求めても無理なんですが・・・。多分、残ったジミヘン・グループの２人（ミッチ・ミッチェルとノエル・レディング）は苦労したんでしょうね。まあ、当時は話題にはなりました。マイク・ピネラはその後アイアン・バタフライやニュー・カクタスに参加したりしていますが、どこに行っても価値を下げています。この人はほんまに日本人の僕には魅力がいまいち良く分からんお方でした。ただし、聞いてみる価値はあります。でも今聞いても方向性がいまいちよく分からんです。２枚目はもっと分かりませんが。
