孤高のシンガーである、Luther Vandrossの81年〜03年までのヒット曲を集めたベストが登場します。
言わずもがな彼は03年に傑作「Dance With My Father」を発表した直後、脳卒中で倒れ、長い昏睡状態の末亡くなられた。一時の最盛期を過ぎたとは言え、再び良質な曲（個人的に停滞期の曲などもすばらしいと思いますが…）をリリースし始めていただけに、彼を失ったことはブラックミュージックシーンにおいては大変な損失だったと思います。

今回はおそらくアルバム「Luther Vandross」から「Dance With My Father」あたりでレコーディングされていたのではないかと思わしき新曲「Shine」、「Got You Home」を収録。少々選曲に疑問を感じるもののスマートな選曲であるということを踏まえれば満足のいく仕上がりでしょう。

ちなみに日本盤と輸入盤では収録内容が異なります。日本盤には…
（＋）「I Really Didn't Mean It」、「Stop to Love」、「Searching」、「So Amazin’」、「Love The One You're With」、「Always and Forever」、「Shine（Freemasons Mixshow Radio Edit）」
（−）「Superstar」、「Here and Now」、「A House Is Not A Home」、「I'd Rather」、「Think About You」、「Wait For Love」
という5曲の変更、ジャケットの多少の変更があるので気をつけてください。

正直「So Amazin'」の収録は大変うれしいことなんですが、カバーが得意だった彼の傑作カバー「Superstar」やポップチャートでも好成績を残したバラード「Here and Now」、低迷期に生まれたファンにも人気のバラード「Here and Now」、初期の名曲と言える「A House Is Not A Home」がカットされたのはイタイかな、と。なので個人的には輸入盤がおすすめです。ちなみに輸入盤には日本盤にはないRemixを数曲収録したBonus CD付きのヴァージョンが存在します。

ただし、輸入盤に付属されていない歌詞がついていることは評価できます。

名前は聞いたことがあるなと思い、このベストをレンタルしてみました。
聴いてみるとなかなか古き良きというか、クラッシクながら独特のグルーブを生み出すというか素晴らしい声でびっくりしました。
男性でこういう声があるんだなあ、とある意味感動するというか。キーシャ・コールの「ネヴァー」を先に聞いたのですが１の楽曲すごいし、
捨て曲なしで、ファーストから聴いていこうと思います。
