新作をつくるまでの彼なりの苦悩をさらりと語るなど、滅多に見ることが出来ない映像ばかりです。最後には彼からメッセージが語られています(おそらく Welsh?)。

5.0 out of 5 stars 最先端ポップの虚飾を廃し、露になったＵＫポップとしての系譜, 2006/10/19
英国にはブルー・ナイルやプリファブ・スプラウトなど、寡作ながら丁寧な歌作りで信頼の高いバンド（というか作家）がありますが、２８年で５作目となるスクリッティ・ポリッティもまた、そういったＵＫポップの至宝の一つとして位置付けてもよいのではないでしょうか。
というのも、本作は従来の作品イメージとは一線を画し、比較的パーソナルでエバーグリーンな楽曲で占められていると思うからです。これまではレゲエやソウルやヒップホップといった当世流行の音楽（黒ビール）を取り上げ、先鋭的なゲスト・ミュージシャンの起用によって味付けし、その時代を映す文字通りのポップさを追求してきたグリーン・ガートサイドですが、本作の中では少年期に影響を受けた過去の白人音楽（白パン）を念頭に置き、詞にも自身のプライベート（結婚！）を反映させて、全ての楽器を一人でホーム・レコーディングしているのです。例えばＭ３などはブライアン・ウィルソンを思わせるような曲調です。
もっとも彼はいまだヒップホップ・ジャンキーであり、７年前の傑作「アノミー＆ボノミー」同様のアプローチと思われる多くの未発表音源があるそうですが、レーベル（ラフ・トレード）の主催者（ジェフ・トラヴィス）からあの独特のハイトーン・ヴォイスの歌が聞きたいのだと言われたことで、本作が生まれたそうです。

このＤＶＤでは、グリーンのジャンパーを着た彼が、楽器屋でアコースティック・ギターを購入し、本作の曲を弾き語りする過程が描かれます。「失敗と同じくらい成功が醜く思えた」など、彼なりに苦しんだ痕が吐露されて衝撃ですが、そんなことを言ってのけるのも天才と称される彼ならではでしょう。
