   ジャック・ニコルソンとヘレン・ハントが、年輪を重ねた者同士の「人生の綾」を体現し、ゴールデングローブ並びにアカデミー賞の主演男優賞と主演女優賞をあわせて獲得したヒューマンコメディだ。
   ニコルソン演じるのは、恋愛小説で名を馳せた作家、だが素顔は病的なまでに潔癖症で、自己中心的な偏屈男だ。この憎まれ役が、ぜん息もちの息子と暮らすシングルマザー、ハント扮するなじみのウエイトレスとの恋を通じて、人間性を回復してゆく。隣りに住むゲイの画家（グレッグ・キニア）と愛犬との交流も重要で、3人（＋1匹）のセッションが豊かなハーモニーを作りだしている。

主演ジャック・ニコルソン＆ヘレン・ハント二人の役者としての持ち味と演技者としての円熟、そして実年齢が役柄と奇蹟的に合致して生まれた傑作、こんないわゆる小品（二人の出演料を除けばロケ多用の低予算映画）を肩肘はらずに作ってしまうところがハリウッドの懐の深さです、

日本でもかつての邦画全盛期なら例えば私の好きな成瀬巳喜男のメロ・ドラマのような同類作品が量産されていたわけで、現在の広告代理店主導のように見える大仰なお涙頂戴作品ばかりが目に付く邦画の状況は残念だとおもう、

このDVDは繰り返し再販売されている人気作、コメディとしても鑑賞可能な点が映画好き以外の人を含め誰にでも奨められる良い点です、美男美女による恋愛映画でなく初老の男と子連れおばさんのとぼけた付合いがむかえる綺麗なハッピーエンドは映画という娯楽が本来持っている力を最大限発揮した素晴らしいもので繰り返し見ることに耐えます、ニューヨークという「町」が放っている魅力をやはり最大限に舞台として利用する事に成功しています、

恋愛小説家なのがよく分からなかった、話の流れとして偏屈で非情な程の毒舌を言う主人公が真実の愛に目覚めていく、ラブコメディー？時折酷すぎる毒舌に笑えない様な場面がちょくちょく、しかしその性格も持病のせいと言う。小説を書いている場面は最初だけで、あとは良く分からなかったです。
