<ストーリー>
精神病の世界的権威であるハーバート大教授、リチャード・H・ソーンダイクは、アシュレー博士が急死したため、後任所長としてロサンゼルスの重症精神病療養所に赴任することになる。だが着任早々、次から次へと怪事件が起こり、ソーンダイクは病院内の陰謀に巻き込まれていく……。

え〜タイトルは「新・サイコ」ヒッチコック監督に敬意を表したというか、この方がわかりやすいと考えたのでしょう。原題は直訳で「高所恐怖症」です。
メルブルックスの作品の全部に言えることですが、単なるパロディで終わることなく作品自体のストーリーの独自性が際立っており、ヒッチコック作品を知らなくても充分に楽しめる内容です。おなじみの役者さんもさることながら登場人物全員が実にいい味だしてます。個人的にはブロフィがお気に入りです。笑わせてくれるだけでない深さも兼ね備えた傑作だと思います。ぜひ皆さん観てください。

メルブルックスのユーモアが発揮した一作です　洋画でこんなに笑ったのは初めてかもしれな
い　言わずと知れたヒッチコックのパロディですが　ヒッチコックの映画を見てない方でも
十分に楽しめる出来ばえ　特に爆笑もののシーンはなんといってもナイフかと思ったら新聞で
叩かれて　倒れた男が「チップはないぞ」というシーンですかね(爆)
是非見てください　前代未聞の爆笑が起きるかもしれません(笑)

　メル・ブルックスのコメディを評して、ちょっとしつこいというか、あか抜けしないところがある、という指摘もあって、ある程度あたっているとおもう。でも、イヤミがなくいつもたのしい。お説教くさくもないし、イズムや善意の押し売りもない。おかげでとてもとてもハッピーな気分をとりもどすことができる。
　この映画はヒッチコックの名画から、いろいろな場面を借りているが、ストーリーは別のものだ。ホテルのバーで、メル・ブルックスがマデリン・カーンを前に歌を披露する場面はとくによかった。人生はかくありたいものと。
　よくない点もあった。病院を乗っ取ろうとするクロリス・リーチマンとハービー・コーマンのふたりである。おかしくないし、見た目もいまひとつ。他の作品でもぱっとしない。
