Syrup16gのベストアルバムのうち1枚「動脈」です。
（同日、もう1枚のベストアルバム「静脈」がリリースされています）

全曲リマスタリングされただけでなく、オリジナルアルバムでは曲間が無く”前後の曲と繋がっている曲”などが、今作に収録されるに辺り、単体として違和感なく聴けるよう編集し直されています。また、「動脈」「静脈」のどちらにも、お蔵入りとなっていた未発表曲のdemo音源なども収録されています。ベスト2枚の発売後にリリースされたのはラストアルバム「syrup16g」だけなので、この2枚で、ほぼ全てのキャリアを網羅していると言って差し支えないでしょう。



このベストアルバム2枚ですが、バンドの音源リリース等が途絶えただけでなく、ライブの数も極端に少なくなっていた時期、傍から見ている側からすれば「活動休止に限りなく近い」ような時期に、突如リリースが決まったもので、多くの謎を抱えたベストアルバムでもあります。発売時にもバンドメンバーによるプロモーション活動は一切行われなかったため、

『ベストアルバムのリリースは本人達が希望したものなのか？』
『なぜ2枚別々でのパッケージにてリリースされたのか？』
『「動脈」「静脈」には明確なコンセプトが存在するのか？』
『選曲・曲順は誰が決めたのか？』
−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−−
といったような疑問や謎が、未だはっきりとしないまま残っています。

こちらの「動脈」は、「アッパーで激しめの曲を中心に収録」といった解説が一般的で、概ねその通りだと思います。かといって全体でそういった曲ばかりなのかというとそういうわけでもなく、何曲かは「”静脈”というイメージ」の方が似合っているような曲も収録されているので、単純に「Syrup16gの代表曲が（ちょっとだけ偏って）入ってる」、といった感じに思ってもらえればいい気がします。

tape音源の真空 (Free Throw)も含まれていて、

シロップ待望の新譜は、初のオールキャリアベスト盤。

まさか、連続でベスト盤を、しかも２枚同時に発売とは、夢にも思わなかったわけで＾＾；


前作「Delayedead」も厳密にはベスト盤にあたる作品でした。
そして２枚あるシロップのベスト盤はすべて単なる寄せ集めではなく、セルフカバー、という形で、インディ時代の曲を新録して収録していました。

そんな彼らがここへ来て急に“デモ盤を含む、インディーズ時代のそのまんまの音源”と“セルフカバーでは無いベスト的選曲の音源”を収録した寄せ集め的ベスト盤を放ったのでしょうか？


曲目を見てみると、「Everything is Wonderful」から始まり、「リアル」のシングルバージョン、「正常」、「サイケデリック後遺症」とライブの定番が大量に流れてくる。
そして、「Coup d'Etat」〜「空をなくす」の流れは、アルバムはもちろんライブでも必ず同じ順で演奏される、シロップの常識ともいえる曲順だ。

つまり平凡なのです。シロップのすべての作品には捨て曲が一切含まれていないので、それからまたベストを作るっていうのが無理なんだと思います。

このアルバムで唯一気に入ったのが、ボーナス扱いのデモ曲「You say “No”」。DelayedにもDelayedeadにも収録されなかった、まさに「隠れた名曲」です。
実際俺も初めて聞いたわけで、このベスト盤は、現在廃盤の「Free Throw」収録曲と、未CD化のデモ曲を聴くためのCDだと思います。


あと、「HELL-SEE」の曲の音質が向上していたのは良かったかな＾＾ゞ
