CD自体は輸入盤と同じ物です。
日本プレスではありません。
が、原盤の解説の完訳が付いているので
(私のように)英語に堪能でない方は
この日本盤を勧めます。
歌詞の訳もあります。
レーベル面は当時のCOLGEMSのデザインを模した物。
(RHINO)と書いてますが。
肝心の音質はSTEREOは曲によっては音を左右に分け過ぎかなあ・・・
MONOはスバラシイ、持っているオリジナルのモノラルLPより良い音だよ。
モノラル・ヴァージョン聴いた事無い人はぜひ。

　モンキーズ結成４０周年ということで、１９９４年のリイシュー以来、久しぶりのＣＤ化です。当時、アメリカやイギリスでは、ステレオ盤ＬＰと同時にモノラル盤ＬＰも発売されていた。日本では、ステレオ盤のみだったので、２枚目のモノラルミックスを初めて聴く人が多い事と思う。ビートルズのような、別ヴァージョンなどは無いのですが、ミキシングが微妙にステレオ盤と異なっており、判りやすく表現すれば、ステレオ盤は、音の分離を良くする方向で、モノラル盤は、音塊の迫力を伝えるようにミキシングされています。良い再生装置で聴けば、理解できるでしょう。また、録音データもさらに詳しくなっている曲が多いです。
　問題は、ボーナストラックで、ミッシング・リンクスや１９９４年盤のボーナストラックと違うのは、多くの曲が演奏前のカウントやおしゃべりが入っておりますので、さらにスタジオの雰囲気を感じ取れる事です。今回初出のヴァージョンは６曲です。１９９４年盤では「アーリーヴァージョン」とされていた「モンキーズのテーマ」は今回、「セカンド・レコーデッド・ヴァージョン」となり、前後関係が逆転しています。また、最初に録音された６月２５日の３曲がマイクのプロデュースであることも驚きです。さらに「オルタネート・ミックス」と表示されているものの中に、実は「別ヴァージョン」のものもあります。さて、真実は？という事で、ファンには興味深い作品です。ジャケット内側に４人の顔写真がありますが、テレビシリーズで見られた笑顔は微塵も無く、疲れ切って、思い悩む表情に当時の彼らの状況が良く表れています。７月だけでも１４日間スタジオ入りし、さらに撮影もこなしていた訳で、しかも彼らは殆ど演奏させて貰えなかったのですから。
　価格的にもリーズナブルですが、１枚当たりの収録時間は６０分以内であり、さらに数曲加えられるのです。例えばイタリア語ヴァージョンの「モンキーズのテーマ」などが抜け落ちてしまったのは、残念です。
　しかし、ファンは、既出盤を所有していても、必携でしょう。

ディスク２のモノラル版はモンキーズファン必聴です。
音作りがディスク１と違い、迫力があります。ただ、ある程度良い再生装置が必要だと思います。CDラジカセくらいでは、返ってゴチャゴチャした音に聞こえるかもしれません。
私も３０年近く愛用していたアンプがついに昇天してしまい、小型のCDラジカセで聴いて唖然としてしまいました。カーステレオで音量を大きくしてやっと納得。
何だかアメリカって、こういうところが偉いというかスゴイというか、妙に感心してしまいました。日本の商業主義ではこういった物作りはしないだろうな。いい例がこのアルバムも３作目以降は日本版が出ていません。
とにかく、モンキーズファンなら買いです。
