TSUTAYAの店内放送でこのアルバムがかかっていました。
なんかいい音楽だな、とぼーっと聞き続けてしまったわたしは、そのまま1時間近くもTSUTAYAにいつづけ、最後には勇気をだして店員さんに

「この店内放送のバンドはなんというのですか?」

と尋ねていました。

コールドプレイ。

親切にもそのとき店内でかかっていたアルバムを持ってきてくれた店員さんは、わたしにそのバンド名を教えてくれました。

わたしは家に帰り、今、このアルバムを聞いています。
これは最高ですね!久々にお気に入りのバンドを見つけちゃいました的な嬉しさがあります。

この作品を聴くまで、バラッド・ロックやポスト・ロックといったジャンルの音楽は
どうも表現の幅が狭いような気がしていたのだけれど、本作にはその考えを改めさせられることになった。

アルバムとしてこうもまとまりながら、様々な表情を見せてくれるので、聴いていて飽きない。
それでもって、曲はどれも素晴らしいときている。

テンションを自在にコントロールしてみせる「Politik」「A whisper」、
オーケストラの演奏のような荘厳さを持つ、鳥肌ものの「In My Place」、
切ないメロディーの「The Scientist」、ポップな「Clocks」「Green Eyes」。
そして、自由へ向かう意志、喜びを高らかに歌い上げる「Amsterdam」。

こういった楽曲が55分にまとめられている。

本当に素晴らしいアルバムなので、一枚持っていて損はない。

　今最もフツーな大物バンドの待ちに待った２年ぶりのセカンドアルバム。この２年の間に彼らに起こったさまざまな出来事を乗り越え、その成長がサウンドにもリリックにも反映しているように感じられる。

　まず１ＳＴからの持ち味である美しくも繊細なメロディーとクリスのヴォーカルはそのままに、前作とは比べ物にならないほど音に深みと幅が加わり、よりエモ-ショナルになっている。なんとなくＵ２の中期からアクトンベイビーを思い起こさせられるような感じ。

　日本盤のタイトルとは大いに異なるオリジナル盤のタイトル、「頭に沸きたつ血（頭に血が昇る、か？）」のほうがやっぱりしっくりくるなあ・・。
