と思わず感じてしまったほど、聴きやすい曲が増えてますね。
（ニンフェタミンも以前のアルバムに比べればおとなしいと思いますが）
『鬼女と野獣』の頃の人の声とは思えない高音シャウトはやや影を潜め、
今作ではギターを前面に出すことで表現の幅を広げているなといった印象。
むしろDaniは「ギターを聴かせるため」にわざと低音で歌っている感すらあります。
（とはいえ、曲のポイントとなる部分では高音のシャウトもいくつかあり、
必ずしも低音一辺倒というわけではありません。
全体的に見て低〜中音での歌唱が多いということです）

あと再確認したのがこのバンドの作曲＆アレンジセンスの非凡さ。
「Hallowed By Thy Name（アイアン・メイデンのカバー）」を
聴いた時にもセンスの良さは感じていたのですが、
今作のようにギターが前面に出てくるとより一層強く感じます。

メロディがいいんですよ。本当に。
以前からDaniのメロディセンスは半端じゃないとは思っていましたが、
今回は上記のような理由（高音シャウトを抑えてる）もあって、
ギターメロの良さが顕著に表出している気がしますね。


逆に、初期のブラックでホラーな雰囲気はかなり減退しました。
楽曲センスがいいので個人的には気になりませんが、
このバンドにそういったものを求めている方だと物足りなく感じるかもしれません。
また、ニンフェタミンと比べて疾走曲が少ないので、
速い曲が好きな人も最初は肩透かしを喰らう可能性があります。

とはいえ、実に中毒性の高い良曲揃いのアルバムです。
そして、今作は明らかに新しい顧客層を開拓しようとしている気がしますね。
名盤『鬼女と野獣』とは全く違った趣ですが、私は好きです。

これまでシンフォニック・ブラック・メタル・オペラ的独自の音世界を展開させてきた
彼らの新作は、おそらくこれまでで最もメタルサウンドに近い音楽になっていると思います。

ギターが前面に出、とにかく荒々しいメタルサウンドが暴虐の限りを尽くす展開です。
そこには、凶・叫・狂・饗といった彼らの美意識からは隔絶された暴虐サウンドです。
類推するに、本当に本当の彼らの原点回帰なのではないかな、と思っています。
サウンド・プロダクションも秀逸。ドラムが今までにない迫力。音もキレイ。

筆者としてどうか、と問われると、やはりサイコー！ありがとー！ですね。

英国のシンフォブラックメタルバンド、クレイドル・オブ・フィルスの7th。2006作
前作「Nymphetamine」において、装飾を極力減らし初期の突進力を復活させた彼らだが
メンバーチェンジを経ての本作もその流れに乗った、ある種のメタリックなシンプルさを追求した作品だ。
全盛期に比べると、バンドの顔であるダニのVoも、楽曲そのものの迫力もやや減退しているのは否めず
ブラックメタルとしての大仰さよりも、普遍的なメタルサウンドとしての要素が強く出ているような気がする。
メンバーの交代のせいもあってか、ギターのサウンドの軽さも気になるし、リフ自体にも面白みはない。
とても聴きやすくなってしまった。肝心の彼ら独自の血みどろの世界観が、今のこの音からは見えて来ない。
美も醜もどちらも中途半端な印象。年を経たヴァンパイアはすでに魔力を失いつつあるのだろうか…
