バディ・リッチおやびんの追悼コンサートの模様を収録したDVDで、世界の凄腕ドラマーがバディ・リッチ楽団と一緒に演奏してます。

オマー・ハキムのドラミング観たさに購入したんだけれど、それ以外のドラマーも凄いカッコいい。

ドラムだけじゃなく、サックス・ペット・ボーンなどのソロや、キャシー・リッチのボーカルも素適で、とても心揺さぶられる演奏です。

おまけとして、白黒テレビ時代のバディ・リッチ楽団の演奏が収録されています。

ちなみに参加しているドラマーはこんな感じです。

ドラムの神様、バディ・リッチの死去を受け、1989年と1991年の
2回に渡り、彼の遺志を継ぎ追悼する名目で開いたコンサートを収録した
2枚組のDVD。

スカラーシップコンサートの名の通り、このコンサートで得た
収益はドラム奏者を目指す若者への奨学金の基金になるわけだが、
参加しているドラマーの顔ぶれが凄すぎる。

スティーヴ・ガッド、オマー・ハキム、ヴィニー・カリウタ、
デニス・チェンバース等、世界の超一流ドラム奏者が一堂に会す
(しかもほぼノーギャラで）などということは後にも先にも
これっきりであり、バディ･リッチがいかに偉大で同業者からの
尊敬を集めていたかがわかる。

曲目としては、バディ・リッチが生前演奏していた曲のカバーであるが
これらについてはバディ・リッチが演奏したオリジナルの曲を知っていた方が
より楽しめる。

それとは別で特筆すべきなのが、1枚目に収録されたヴィニー・カリウタ・
スティーブ・ガッド、デイヴ・ウェックル3氏によるスペシャルセッションだ。
3人のドラムだけで構成されたこのセッションは、ドラム奏者にとっては
もはや｢聖書」とでも言うべき奇跡的な演奏である。
この部分だけを切り取った動画がyoutubeで観られるが、一様にして
「これぞドラムだ」「これ以上のドラムのセッションを観たことがない」という
評価のコメントがついていることからも、その素晴らしさが窺い知れる。

当然、youtubeの動画で満足することなく、しっかりお金を払って
高画質・高音質の演奏を観ていただきたい。

それだけの価値は、確実にある。

内容はについては先述の方が述べられていますが、発売当時確か７〜８千円くらいしたビデオ４本分を一度に全部見られてまるで夢のようです！

私が購入したものについては、リージョン２のデッキで普通に見ることが出来ました。
