プログレメタル系のバンドでありながら、大作に走らず、曲をコンパクトにまとめてきているところに好感が持てる。


それでいて捻りの効いたリフが良い感じ。


特にドラムの演奏が堪らんね。(ワンバスだとか)


北欧メタルによくあるような甘いメロディアスな感じはなく、結構辛口なバンドなのでそこら辺好みが別れる。

ちなみにマストドンとは。紀元前ン千年前に、人類が狩りを始めた頃その標的になり絶滅した象の祖先のこと。
なんでまた、そんな名前をバンドにつけたのか？
マストドン以前に、パっとしないキャリアをもつ彼らが、恐竜が絶滅したとされる氷河期も、人類による三度の世界大戦をも乗り越え大ブレイクし生き残ったこのアルバム。
確かに、氷も溶かすし、テポドンだろがスカッドミサイルだろが、余裕で吹き飛ばすわな。

変拍子を多用したりと、まるで万華鏡をのぞいているようなめまぐるしい展開を見せる。

はっきりいって数回聴いただけではなかなかメロディが頭に残らないけれども、でも次こそはと思って何度も聴いてしまう（それだけ興味が引かれる曲だということ）クセはある。

誰に似てるか？と言われたら、Deathの現代版（Chuck Schuldinerが生きていたら…）というのがもっとも適切な表現だと思う。



無音の時間が10数分も続く一番最後の曲は余計（減点の要因）。
