前作『ラヴ・アンド・セフト』以来5年振りとなる新作登場タイトルは『Modern Times/モダン・タイムス。通算44枚目となるニューアルバムは10曲入り、現在のツアー・バンドとともにレコーディング。ディランはヴォーカル、キーボード、ギター、ハーモニカを担当している。ジャック・フロスト プロデュース。
'06年5月24日に65歳の誕生日を迎えたディラン。これまで43枚発表したアルバムの通算セールスは1億枚、キャリア中で実に1000回以上のライヴを行ってきた。活動歴45年を数えた今もなお歌い続けるロック界最重要アーティスト&生き続ける歴史ボブ・ディラン。05年は三部作自伝の第一部「ボブ・ディラン自伝(The Cronicles)」が日本でも発売となった。同11月にはマーティン・スコセッシ監督による、ドキュメンタリー映画「NO DIRECTION HOME」(6月23日DVD発売)の公開により、世界が「ディラン再評価ムーブメント」で加熱され、新作の世界同時発売を受けて沸点を迎える!

wonderful new CD 　今、車に乗るたびにworkingman's blues が聞こえてくる。　何とも心地よいそれでいてディランらしいメロディーがいい。肩の力が抜けた、別世界にいる感もするディランの新しいアルバム。妻に言わせると、地味な・・・というけど。６０年代のブロンド　オン　ブロンドなど傑作アルバム、like a rolling stone のような今聞いても新鮮なディラン　ミュージック、やはり若かりし頃のムードが漂う。自分も若かっかつｘたわけだけど、聞きながら年を重ねた。渋さとフェイドアウェイ感が癖になる。　ビルボードで１位と聞いてうれしくなるが、さすがだね、新しい扉をまた開けたような気もする。まだまだ死ぬまで曲を作り歌ってほしい。歌詞がないので詩の中身が十分わからないが耳からだけでもやさしい歌には違いないだろう。

ビルボード誌の９月１６日付・総合アルバムチャート「The Billboard 200」で，
７６年２月７日付より（５週間連続）Ｎｏ.１に輝いた『欲望（Ｄｅｓｉｒｅ）』以来，
実に３０年ぶりに，全米ナンバーワンになりました！

ちなみに，５年前にリリースされ，グラミー賞「最優秀コンテンポラリー・フォーク・アルバム」を受賞した
前作の『Love And Theft』は，最高位は５位。

＿別に，チャート順位がすべてではないのですが，長年ディランを聴いてきた「一ファン」の私にとっては，
今年６５歳の彼に対して，多くのリスナーが新作を待ってくれていた＿ということを，客観的にチャートが
（アルバム売り上げの順位をもって）示してくれたことがすごく嬉しいのです。

＿「１番」は気持ちいい！おめでとう！
