７０年代、初版のＬＰを買って以来、何年か周期でこのアルバムを毎日聴き続ける時期が巡っ
てくる。最近は車の６連奏ＣＤの中で、これは他と入れ替わることがない。
何カ月かに一度、無性に聴きたくなる。特に、ＬＰではＡ面の『墨絵の国へ』〜『黒船(嘉永六
年六月四日)』までは、一気に聴かないとおさまらない。というか、止められない。何度聴いて
も魂が震えてくる。やはり“手作業の演奏（笑）”による緻密にして究極のグルーヴ感は、
現代に聴いても群を抜いていると思う。 無人島に持って行く邦楽五枚の中には必ず筆頭で入
るだろう。
（ちなみに無人島行きの洋楽の筆頭は、ニール・ラーセンの『ジャングル・フィーバー』です）

発売当時の思い出。クリス・トーマスのプロデュースということもあって洋楽ファンの間でも話題になった。「黒船」というタイトルや曲名で『やはり安易にもエキゾチック・ジャパンを売り物にするのか』という思いを抱きつつ音を聴いてビックリ！高中正義のギターは無茶苦茶格好いいし、印象的なイントロやリフが随所にあふれている。「タイムマシン~」や「塀までひとっとび」のイントロは今聴いても大好きだが当時は本当に痺れた。けっこうファンキーな音作りだが、これも当時とすれば最先端だった。
ありきたりな表現だが、時代を超えた名盤だ。

当時中学生だった。深夜ながら勉強をしながらラジオを聴いていたらこのアルバムが流れてきた。「タイムマシンにお願い」、この曲を聴いたときの衝撃。あまりにかっこいい。勉強を止めてアルバム全曲に聴き入ってしまった。小遣いを貯めてすぐ買った。以来、長い年月がたったが年に何回かは必ずアルバム全編を通して聴いてしまう。とにかく全編あまりにかっこ良く今だに古くならない。これぞ名盤！桐島カレンの「タイムマシンにお願い」はイマイチ、木村カエラのそれも歌はうまいし声もキレイだが線が細い。ミカのような激しさ、毒？がない。カエラが吠えていてくれてたらと思うが…。残念ながら「タイムマシンにお願い」はミカのものである。
とにかく持っていて損はない。34年を経た今もおじさんは聴き惚れている。
