オーソン・ウェルズ1958年の監督・主演作品。フィルム・ノワールの最後を飾ったサスペンス。映画は映像がすべて。これぞ映画！というくらい魅力たっぷりの映像が見たい、と思われる方はこの作品の冒頭に注目すべし！映画を知り尽くしたウェルズが画面に映るもの全てを操って生み出した名場面。画面構成、カメラ操作、音楽、効果音、タイミング・・全てが素晴らしい。

オーソン・ウェルズが、名作『市民ケーン』で鮮烈な映画デビューを果たしたのは1941年。本人が「キャリアの頂点から出発して後は下る一方だった・・・」と語っているように、結局、処女作『市民ケーン』を超える作品を世に出すことは出来ませんでした。しかし、この『黒い罠』に溢れる"異様”な雰囲気（登場するウェルズの容姿も異様ですが・・）”は、映像の隅々までこだわるウェルズの独特の感性が生み出しているものに間違いありません。ウェルズは、やはり天才だったと改めて思い知らされる傑作でした。
