映画自体は昔に何度も観ていたのですがＤＶＤとしてはここ最近廃盤で、再発したら購入しようと
思っていたところでした。
サウンドもモノラルで映像も古いのですが、ストーリーのテンポも良く、中ダレすることなく最後まで
一気に流れていく感じですね。
ところどころにニヤリとするようなユーモアや痛快なシーンが散りばめられていて、それが観ていて
飽きさせないアクセントになっていると思うのですが、惜しむらくはスタンダード版の方はアリスとの
初対面のシーンやギャングのボスとのシーンなど、かなりのエピソードがカットされている点。（ハイ
ビジョン・マスター版より 20 分も再生時間が短いということからも、カットの量が伺えるかと思います）
再生時にどちらで再生するか選択できますが、少なくとも初見時はハイビジョン・マスター版で観て
下さい。

この作品で私が一番好きなシーンは後半のサクセス・ストーリーよりも、物語中盤で演奏会に招か
れてモーツァルトのクラリネット協奏曲第３楽章のソロをとるところ。
ベニイの堂々とした演奏も痛快ですし、アリスがただのお高くとまったご令嬢ではなく心優しいレディ
であることもわかる心温まるシーンです。私、このシーンだけのためにＤＶＤを購入しました。（曲自
体はフィギュア・スケートのプログラム曲のように短かくアレンジし直されてますけどね）

アメリカ映画のユーモアと王道サクセス・ストーリーを安心して楽しみたい方にはうってつけの一本
です。

ベニーグッドマンのクラリネットは、自分が出す音と全然違うのが衝撃でした。
クラリネットの音色がこういうものだというのをベニーグッドマンのレコードで知りました。

その後、この映画（DVD)を見て、ベニーグッドマンについて知ることが出来たのは幸運でした。
一生負い目を背負っていくよりも、それぞれの得意分野で生きていけばよいのだという。

ベニー・グッドマンにそっくりなスティーブ・アレンと彼の演技が楽しい。最高の見せ場はカーネギーホールでの演奏シーン。グッドマン・カルテットに参加していたテディ・ウィルソン、ライオネル・ハンプトンが出演、演奏しているところは痺れる。ジーン・クルーパのドラムもご機嫌。
若き日のスタン・ゲッツが出演しているところも見逃せない。ジャズファンにはたまらない映画。
