鳴らすべき音が誕生したときクリムゾンは動き出す〜とおっしゃったフィリップ卿の言葉どおり、
正にクリムゾンしか出来ない音楽だ！と思いましたね。当時は！
言われなきゃ一発録りなんてわかんないよ！うますぎるぅ〜〜！
この後出たフル・アルバム「スラック」に本作の＃１，２，４，６が収録されてはいるんだけど、
全部アルバムとは別テイクであり、練られたアルバムversionよりもこちらの方が衝動的でよいという方も多いようです。
特にインストの＃１、４はアルバムでは両方とも3分ぐらい短縮されており、これらの曲の生まれたままの姿を味わいたい方には是非おすすめのミニ・アルバムです。
尚、＃３「ケイジ」は短い曲だけど、ユニークで異色の興味深い曲です。

７０年代ＫＣの掉尾を飾ったRED、その異常にヘビーメタリックなサウンドに打ちのめされた者にとって、一時的にせよ、８０年代のＫＣは肩透かしでした（現在持つ印象は違いますが）。そして９０年代、この作品と共に現れた音、VROOOMの静寂から一気に炸裂するイントロには思わず興奮、これぞ待ちに待った音だと。それはあのREDの流れを汲む感触に他ならなかったからです。しかし、この編成による来日公演で演奏されたREDには、かつての近寄りがたい迫力と緊張感が失われており、７０年代のパワートリオとはかなり異質であるらしいことも次第にわかってきました。ブラッフォードが｢ダブルトリオ｣のコンセプトに従っただけなのが明らかなのに対し、本作でもブリューの色彩は濃く、”Cage”などはDiscipline当時の発展系と言えそうです。

次にリリースされたTHRAKにやや散漫な印象を覚えたのは不思議でした。何故そうなのか？曲数の多さや、既出曲により薄まった内容のせいだけではない気がします。今振り返ってみると、この手の楽曲は初期衝動が重要、その点で本作は荒々しい生命力を保っており、当時の作品中では一番のオススメです。
