　ピアニスト兼歌手のイリアーヌが、ニューヨークの今をうまく表現したスムーズジャズアルバムを出した。若き８０年代に短期間、当時の人気フュージョンバンド、ステップス・アヘッドでしっかり鍛えた経験を上手く開花させたアルバム。
　ニューヨークに移り住んで四半世紀のこの人、今年で４５歳のはずだが、年を重ねるにしたがって、感性、歌声が逆に若くなっていくようで、不思議だ。スピードと癒し感を兼ね備えた、現代的で質のいいポップ風アルバムに仕上がっている。ブラジルで生まれ、パリでピアニストとしてスタートした彼女には、若いころからの音楽の積み重ねや工夫がある。アルバム全１３曲のうち７曲は自作。全曲でボーカルをとっており、楽器はピアノよりむしろシンセサイザーを多用しているるから、都会の雰囲気が感じられる。
　１曲目「ランニング」はアーバン音楽の名作になるかもしれない。ボサノバリズムのポップ調で、少しマイナーコードを使っているので、大人っぽく、かつ声が若々しい。「いったいこの人、どうなったの。突然変異？」と言いたい位驚いてしまった。２曲目「オモエ・コバ」は、サンタナの古き傑作だが、編曲がうまく切れのよいサンバになっている。一度、サンタナとラテン同士で共演したら面白いだろう。タイトルにある３曲目「アラウンド・ザ・シティ」は、シンプルで普通の生活を描いた歌詞（英語）がよく、ミディアムテンポのロック調。４曲目は何とボブ・マーリイの「ジャミン」。本作品の中では一番ジャズっぽく仕上げてあり、アップテンポの見事なピアノを披露すると同時に、ボーカルにボイスチェンジャーを使い、サビにはトランペット＆ウッドベースを起用しているハイブリットな作品。こう書いていくともうきりがない。
　イリアーヌは、これまでのボッサジャズ歌手から、中年にして時代の先端を行くポップシンガーに変身したかのようだ。

eliane elias　の新作です。
3曲目のAround The Cityだいぶしぶいです。
今までのボサノバ中心のアルバムとはまた違うイリアーヌの素晴らしさとかっこよさを味わえます。

4曲目のBob Marleyの曲Jammin'はＪＡＺＺのテイストでこれまたしぶい。

9曲目のA Vizinha Do Ladoはイリアーヌらしいボサノバ

この3曲だけでも自分の中ではかなり価値あり。
22日にBLUE NOTEでこの曲を生で聴けるのは本当に楽しみです。

ジャズ・ピアノの片手間に始めたヴォーカルだったのにどんどんヴォーカリストとしての比重が高まっている彼女。前作「Dreamer 夢そよぐ風」でよほど自信がついたのかなぁー 但し前作とガラリと変わって今回はさらにカラフルでポップな ヴォーカル・アルバムに仕上がってます。もちろんあちらこちらにブラジル・テイストもちりばめてあるけど。オープニングの エレクトリック・ボッサな曲なんかにはちょっとびっくり させられます。
でも バックで聞こえる彼女の華麗なピアノ、そろそろ久しぶりにヴォーカル・レスなジャズ・ピアノのアルバムも聞きたいところだけど．．．。
