This is Yorke's first solo album. "The Eraser" features nine new tracks and was produced by Nigel Godrich. Thom is currently on tour with Radiohead, who are showcasing brand new material alongside old favorites. Radiohead continue to tour through the summer, playing the US in June and festivals across Europe in August.

　皆大好きradioheadのフロントマン、thom yorkeのソロ。
　リリースはlondonのレーベルxl recordingsからで、カタログ番号はなんと200。

　プロデューサーはいつも通りのnigel氏で、アートワークもいつも通りのstanley氏。
　1曲目のピアノはjonnyによるものがサンプリングされているけれど、それ以外はthomとnigelによるものだそうで、前編にわたって鳴っているのはピアノ、チープなシンセ、ミニマルなビート。
　とても統一感がとられています。

　「radioheadとしての活動と、メンバーたちの信頼なしにこのアルバムは存在し得なかった」との記述があるとおり、とてもリラックスした環境で作られた作品だと思います。
　なにせ緊張感がまるで無くて、音階とリズムの調和が良くとられています。
　これまでの活動を経たthomの「今」の青写真といえるでしょう。

　楽しそうに歌っているthomが想像されます。
　好きなのはm-1,4,6,8。

まず、アルバムを封から出してびっくり、折り畳まれた、屏風のような紙ジャケでした。「日本沈没」ならぬ「英国沈没」な版画がRADIOHEADに今までなかった庶民的な暖かさを感じさせられます。
この「庶民的な暖かさ」はアルバム全編を薄い膜で覆っているようにも感じられ、トムの歌声も「暖気」を帯びた牧歌的な雰囲気を醸し出しています。
バンドとしてのRADIOHEADの作品にはどれも、ある種の「凄み」が潜んでいると思いますが、このトムのソロ作品にはその「凄み」はあまり（というより、ほとんど）感じとれない、というのも事実でしょう。
けれど、トムがインタビューで言っているようにRADIOHEADという「怪物」から離れて作ったこの作品にはバンドではできないトム個人としての限りなく淡く、儚い、しかし強烈なまでの『音』の追求が成されています。
世を震撼させる音楽では決してないけれど、トムが作り上げた（ナイジェルと一緒だけど）この作品は心の深淵を振るわせる音楽には違いないと思います。
個人的には、６曲目のトムのファルセットが美しく、連夜リピートしております。そう、夜中に聴くといいですよ（もちろん、家で一番良い音を出すオーディオで聴いて下さい）

名実ともに現在世界最高のバンドの一つであるレディオヘッドのフロントマン、トム・ヨークの初のソロアルバム。

まず、純粋に音楽を評価するとしたなら、文句無く傑作である。

しかし、これがバンド名義ではなくソロ名義でリリースする必然性があるのかというと、それは少し疑問だ。独特の「宅録臭」を感じなくもないが。

簡潔にサウンドを説明するとしたら、『KID A』や『AMNESIAC』と同じように、エレクトロニカ色が非常に強く、『OK COMPUTER』こそレディオヘッドの最高峰と考える方には不向きかもしれない。

現時点での最新作である『Hail to the Thief』では再びバンド・サウンドに回帰した印象のレディオヘッドだが、この『THE ERASER』ではもうひとつの「ポスト『KID A』、『AMNESIAC』」の情景を描き出しているように思う。
聴く者を突き放す冷たいエッジに満ちた『KID A』に比べ、この作品にはある種人間的な淋しさと優しさが入り混じっている。

とにかく『KID A』、『AMNESIAC』の世界観が好きな人にとっては買って絶対に損は無い作品であることは保障する。
だが、これにいつもレディオヘッドを聴き終えたあとに感じる、クタクタになるほどの完璧な満腹感を期待するべきではないだろう。
この作品は、トム・ヨークによる「極上の息抜き」であり、世界中の音楽ファンを魅了してやまない、レディオヘッドという怪物バンドの「次」への最高の「つなぎ」として考えるべきではないか。

もう一度言うが、これは間違いなく傑作である。
