日本の昔の歌謡曲や童謡などからの
幅広い選曲が面白い１枚です。
アレンジもなかなか凝っています。
今回の作品ではウッドベースが
特にいい味を出しているように思えます。

難を言えば中盤のM-7「ソーラン節」〜M-10「花」への流れで
聴いていて少しダレてきてしまうことです。
M-5「どんたく」などが前半でいい意味で飛んでる反動?ですかね。
その次のM-11「みずいろの雨」のカバーは艶があって好きです。

案外手厳しい意見が多くてビックリしちゃいました。
私は、普段ジャズを聞かない人間なんでPE'Zの曲を聞くと
「うわぁ、すごいなぁ。この人たち天才ちゃう？」
なんていちいち感動してしまいますが、色々他のアーティストの曲を聞いてみると「たくさんの中の５人」なんだな、とも痛感してしまうわけです。
だけど、私がそれでも星５つあげちゃうのはその存在のありがたみ（？）です。
だって、PE'Zがいなかったらジャズ聞こうと思わなかったかも知れないから。
そういう「みんなの入り口」的な存在にしても十分意味はあると思いますよ。
あなたのウォークマンのパンクやらメロコアやらの隣にコッソリ入れてやってくださいな。

PE’Zの国際舞台での活躍にメジャーリーグやセリエＡで活躍する野球やサッカー選手の国際進出を重ね合わせると感慨深いものがある。今回は日本の歌をカバーによってジャズとしてよみがえらせた企画。選曲がすこぶるおもしろい。和製ジャズ（鈴懸の径、銀座カンカン娘）、演歌（雪國）、歌謡曲 （ともだち、また逢う日まで ）、童謡 （おもちゃのチャチャチャ）、民謡（ソーラン節）、ニューミュージック （小春おばさん、みずいろの雨）などバラエティーに富み、日本の音楽の多様さを遺憾なく伝えている。曲によってはオーソドックスなジャズの歴史性を感じさせたり、随所に新しい感覚を盛り込んだりと単なるアレンジメント・ジャズに終わらせない工夫とジャズスピリッツが特徴である。グローバルスタンダード化した日本のジャズの切込み隊としての彼らの今後の動向に注目したい。
