Debut album by this critically adored British female pop vocalist. 11 tracks including the single 'Smile'. It's been a whirlwind couple of months for Lily Allen. After signing a low key deal with Regal, late last year, no one could have predicted how quickly she'd make an impression on the nation. Lily, like many artists, started posting tracks on her Myspace site in November 2005, so she could gauge what people thought. The response has been phenomenal. MySpaceから火がついた、Lily Allenのデビューアルバム。
1st シングルのSmileは1位、このアルバムは見事2位をゲット。
絶妙なサンプリング・センスとほどよいチープ感が癖になる作品です。

でもそれ以上に癖になるのは歌詞。
ヒットしたSmileも「ひどい女だ」と思いつつ、「あ〜、気持ち分かる」となってしまう（特に女性？）、妙な共感が恐ろしいです（笑）

【最初に泣いているのを見た時ね/正直笑えたわ、すごく愉快よ/普通は嫌な気分になるじゃない？/でも笑えたのよ/ざまあみろ、って感じ】

ビデオでもビッチな女を思う存分発揮しています。
また2曲目のKnock 'Em Outは、The Streetsと似たフィーリングが感じられ、The Streetsが好きな人にもオススメです。
もともとThe Streetsと同じく宅録なので、サウンドなんかは良い意味で凄く“素”。
2nd シングルとなる、LDN（サンプリング曲）も華やかな雰囲気が可愛らしい曲の一つ。
それでも、どの曲でも淡々とした冷静なLilyのヴォーカルが不思議に心地よいです。

普段も爆弾発言が多く、新人ながらメディアを賑わせてますが、実力は本物。
本音トーク満載な歌詞に、キャッチーなメロディは絶対に癖になるはず。
他の女性アーティストには無い、格好良さがあると思います。

・・・泣きながら訴える元彼に「超ウケる〜！」なんて歌っちゃうLilyは、ある意味ほんとの意味での“等身大の女の子”なのかも。

初めてLilyを聞いたのはジャイルズ・ピーターソンのワールドワイドのネットラジオででした。
その時かかっていたのはSmileではなくてLDN。
名義もLily Allenではなく、ただのLilyでした。
（Mixiのジャイルズのコミュにトピックが残ってると思います、確か。）
私は知らなかったのですが、その当時にはすでにmyspaceの方で話題沸騰という状況だったらしく、myspaceの力でワールドワイドに成功を収めた、まさにシンデレラガール状態になったわけです。
現代メディアの申し子みたいな女の子ですね。

サウンドプロダクションと歌詞のために、the streetsと比較されることの多いLilyですが、他のレビュアーさんもおっしゃられているように、Lilyの方が断然ポップです。
どちらも質のよいクラブミュージックとロックンロールとが飽和状態になっているロンドン以外の場所からは現れ得なかったと思います。
the streetsはもうちょっとハードなイメージで、USのヒップホップとUKのロックンロールという、下級階層のリアリティーを地で行く感じですが、Lilyの方はそこに若い女の子らしさがあると申しますか。
ヨーロッパのティーエンエイジガールらしくハードでぶっ飛んでるけど、スウィートさも結構あるという。
そこがすごくリアルでポップです。
その差はサウンドプロダクションに明確に現れていて、the streetsのファーストシングルであるHas It Come to This?とLilyのSmileを聞き比べれば、一目瞭然です。

これから先、よりポップになるのか、クラブミュージックの方向へと傾倒していくのか、それとも歌をつきつめるのか。
とにかく楽しみです。

ダブ、レゲエ、スカ等の要素はもちろんだけれど、まさにストーンズって曲や思いっきりニューオリンズ・ガンボなんて曲もあり、とても良い感じのアルバムです。ポップファンのみならず、ロックファンも軽〜く楽しめる一枚。
