　『エリザベス』で評価を得たシェカール・カプール監督の作品。『アラビアのロレンス』と比較されてしまうある意味可愛そうな作品です。
　
　戦闘に疑問を感じ、軍隊を辞めた男（ヒース・レジャー）が、仲間から臆病者を意味する白い羽根を渡される。しかし、彼は仲間の危機を救うため、戦場へ向かう…、といった感じのストーリー。
　戦闘シーンには見るところがありますが、ヒース・レジャーのとった行動などに疑問を感じる方が多かったのではないでしょう。個人的には、ケイト・ハドソンの役にも。私が一番に思っているのが、『パール・ハーバー』もそうであったように、戦争＋恋愛の作品は、成り立たないということ。戦争映画の好きな人たちは、戦争映画には恋愛など必要ない、むしろ邪魔だと思っているのではないでしょうか。感情移入しにくいというか、ごちゃごちゃしてしまう。戦争映画は戦争、恋愛映画は恋愛。どちらも見せようとすると駄作になりがちです。そういう意味で、この作品は評価がいまいちなのではないでしょうか。

　しかし、見るところもあります。もちろん、戦闘シーンは素晴らしいです。迫力もあり、戦闘を上から撮ったシーンは素晴らしかったと思います。そして、ジャイモン・ハンスゥの演技。役どころも素晴らしかったのですが、友を救うため必死に戦う彼の演技は素晴らしかったと思います。音楽もジェームズ・ホーナーで、素晴らしいスコアを聞かせてくれます。いいところも、たくさんあるので惜しい作品だと思います。

　ＤＶＤの仕様としては、ＤＴＳ音声、映像特典も付いていますので、まずまずのないようですが、最初はレンタルが無難です。コレクションにするかと言われれば、微妙です。

友情と愛情と戦争と、いろんなのがギューと詰まり過ぎて１回目は充分理解出来ませんでした。
ハリーは何故軍隊を辞めたのか、スーダンに何をしにいったのか、アブーがそうまでしてハリーを助ける理由は、謎がいっぱいです。そして不可解ともいえるラストの２人。
そうですね、３回見るとだいぶ納得できる様になりました。
スーダンに行ってからのハリーはどんどんすさんでいってボロボロで、その時のヒース・レジャーが意外なほどかっこよく、セクシーで彼のファンならこれを見るだけでも価値ありだと思います。
個人的には「キレイだ」「美しい」と２人の男に絶賛されるケイト・ハドソンが全然キレイに思えなかった所も痛いです。

この作品をたまたま　YouTubeの小さな画面で見ていて　
戦闘場面のすごさに　ビデオレンタルで家の50インチ
プラズマで迫力ある映像が楽しめると期待して観ました
満足に戦闘場面の映像に圧倒されました
これと同じような作品に　　ズ−ル戦争　野望の大陸　というのも　合計30分
観て比較するとこちらも　イギリス軍がハチャメチャに蛮族に　やられてしまい
イギリス連隊旗まで奪い取られてしまう体たらく　こちらのほうが面白いかもしれないが
DVD化されていない　この作品と同様復活して安価版が欲しいですね
