   土浦海軍航空隊の飛行予科練習生の倶楽部に指定されている村松家の少年克郎は、虚弱体質ながらも日曜日ごとに家に集まる青年たちに憧れ、自分も予科練を受けようと必死の鍛錬を続けていく。戦時中、予科練の訓練などの生活を描き、その素晴らしさを描くと共に少年たちの憧れを煽ろうと製作された国策映画。ただし宣伝臭は確かにあるものの、明朗素朴な作りには意外と胡散臭さはなく、むしろ娯楽映画としての楽しさに満ち溢れた佳作に仕上がっている。また少年を鼓舞する姉に原節子が扮し、そのマドンナ的存在感も作品に大いに貢献。そもそもの目的は目的として、戦後60余年経った今、映画としての素晴らしさをこそ讃えたい作品である。監督は娯楽派・渡辺邦男。（増當竜也）

高田稔と原節子が『望楼の決死隊』に続き共演した戦争ドラマ。3人の遺児を抱える村松はるの家は、土浦海軍航空飛行機予科練習生の倶楽部に指定される。はるの息子・克郎は、予科練生たちと過ごすうちにいつしか自らも飛行生を目指すようになっていく。

日本・海軍省の全面協力をもとに、若き予科練学徒生活を題材に予科練の訓練風景を描く、１９４３年製作・『渡辺邦男監督』の戦意高揚作品。
「海の荒鷲」を育てる海軍の訓練風景を詳細に描いた分、飛行シーンも少なく航空映画としては魅力に欠けますが、物語の展開がすっきりとまとまり完成度が高い作品と思う。
戦後生まれの私には当時を知る貴重な映像資料となり。反面、戦前生まれの飛行機好きの「若き私」に生まれ変われば、我先にカッコいい航空兵に志願したいと思う心境にもなる作品です。（：悲惨な結末の特攻で散っていくのを知らずして・・・・。）
また、お国のためとは言え、我が子が志願する母親の胸中を想うと実に「罪作りな作品」であると思うが・・・・・・。

土浦の海軍予科連の厳しい訓練と、穏やかな休日をコントラストの対比で魅せる。休日の学生たちの相手を、当時のピンナップガール・原節子が可憐に演じる。これを当時見たら、俺も予科連入ろう、と思うかもしれない。予科連に入ったら、母も兄弟もない、お国のために奉公しろ、というメッセージは今見ると滑稽でさえあるが、当時はこれが本道だった。靖国への行進などはドキュメンタリーを見ているようだ。特典映像では、現在の土浦予科連跡（防衛省自衛隊敷地）を巡る。「硫黄島からの手紙」を観て何かを感じ取った人は、ぜひ本作を観てほしい。

この主題歌は好きですね。
「いざ征け若鷲　翼を連ね　奮ふはいまぞ　土浦魂」
「風切る翼の日本刀に　はむかふ敵なし　土浦魂」
ところでおもしろいことに歌中で敵機を「敵鷲」といつてゐるのですよ。
敵であらうと搭乗員とその飛行機は立派な「鷲」なのですね。
これだけみてゐると敵愾心を煽るだけの歌には思へませんね。
もつとも一方で「憎さも憎き」ともいつてゐますけどね。
映画としては時代性が露骨に過ぎる印象があります。
同じ戦時中の陸海軍省後援映画であつても、
たとへば「加藤隼戦闘隊」などにはかういふ感じはあまりありませんね。
やはり戦局の推移でせうか。
