メンバーの中に父親が混じっているとか、何でも叩いて楽器にしてしまうなんて聴くと、手作り感覚のロウファイな音を想像しがちだが、非常によく創りこんだ完成度の高い、どちらかといえば重厚なサウンドになっている。幾重にも重ねられたリズム、フレーズ、コーラスのどれもが耳に残る充実振り。さらに曲ごとにポップに、ロックに、メランコリックに変化するメロディの親しみやすさも兼ね備えている。混沌としたintroから、you can't fool me dennisのキラキラとしたピアノと爽快なギターへと展開するオープニングは何度聴いてもゾクゾクする。purple proseやdiamonds in the darkといったニューウェイブなリズムが印象的な曲も、スタジオでの彼等の息遣いまで聞こえてきそうな、熱い仕上がりが興味深い。horse drawn cartやlittle bag of hairは、メランコリックなプログレともいうべき、彼等らしいユニークな、そして聴き応え十分な曲である。全編を通して、音楽好きの豊かなヒラメキと創意に満ちていて、音楽を創ることの喜びが伝わってくる、素敵なアルバムになっている。

アークティック・モンキーズもブロック・パーティーもフェイヴァリットにあげるバンド。
ミステリー・ジェッツ。
そんなこと言われたら聞かないわけにいかない。

２０代前後のメンバーの若いバンドなのに、キーボードのお父さんがギターで参加、とか。
変わっている。

曲には全体的に自由さが感じられると思う。
でも、
やりたいようにやった、
というよりも、
いろいろやってありがちにならないように工夫してみた、
というのが近いかな。

きれいに流れたり、ポップにはじけたりする中に、少々のサイケでリアとお茶目が含まれてると思う。
