ブレンダ・リーといえば、「この世の果てまで（エンド・オブ・ザ・ワールド）」の歌声を思い出しますが、この曲は、もともとスキーター・デイヴィスが1963年に歌い、大ヒットした曲のカバーでした。
もっとも日本では、彼女の持ち歌として知られています。
彼女の歌声は、とても甘く、伸びやかで、1度聴いたら忘れられない張りがあります。説得力のある声という感じがします。

同様にトニー・ベネットの歌で有名なスタンダード曲「わが心のサンフランシスコ（I Left My Heart In San Francisco）」も、ブレンダ・リーの歌唱の方も有名で馴染みがありますね。
原曲は、1954年にクララメ・ターナーによって歌われ、その後、多くの歌手によってカバーされました。現在でもよく聴かれますのでスタンダードナンバーの名曲といえるでしょう。

彼女は、1944年にジョージア州のアトランタで生まれ、6歳でデビューし、その頃「ダイナマイト」という曲を歌ったため、「リトル・ミス・ダイナマイト」と呼ばれました。10代で初のビルボード・アルバムチャートNo.1の記録を達成しています。デビュー当時は「ニュー・ジュディー・ガーランド」とも呼ばれたようです。そのくらい少女の頃から歌が上手かったのでしょう。

「モア」「好きにならずにいられない」「この胸のときめきを」「行かないで」「いそしぎ」「フライ・ミー・トゥ・ザ・ムーン」等のスタンダードの名曲を聴いていますと、1960年代の「オールディーズ」には欠かせない歌手で、その歌声は今聴いてもとても魅力的です。
