１９８４年発表。NYパワーステーションで録音。本作からペドロ・アズナール（Cho、Ag)、ポール・ワーティコ（Dr)が加入し、そこはかとなくラテン・フレーヴァーが演奏に漂うようになった。これ以降の傑作連発時代のPMGの黄金メンバーがここで揃いぶみする。

PMGの明るい爽やかさが前面に出ている名曲ばかりの捨て曲なし状態でアルバムが埋まっていて、一枚を通して聴き心地が最高に良い。ユーモラスなライル・メイズのトランペットが楽しい（１）からギターシンセとドラムが疾走するMTV参入曲の（２）、変拍子のリードからそのリズムを引き継いでPMGの極致といってもよい爽やかな世界が展開される（３）と、聴き終わったあとの聴き手の心にジャケット裏のように虹がかかるような明るい余韻を残すのが特徴だ。ECM的な澄んだ静謐な音からは創造し得ないような素晴らしい昂揚感を、複雑なリズム構成を組むことによって見事にレーベルの壁を飛び越えた作品を送り出すことに成功した、ジャズ・フュージョンのみならず、ロックなど多方面から絶賛と大きな影響を残したPMGの初期を締めくくる名盤である。

本作はでECMレーベルでやれることはすべてやったと実感したPMGは、新たな音楽探求の旅を続けるためにゲフィン・レコードに移籍する。これが最高傑作かと思ったら、現在も含めてまだまだ先があったのだ・・・。
今回のCDは２００３年の再リマスターの際よりも安い。いいなあ。

８４年発表の、ＥＣＭレーベルでの最終アルバムにして、ＥＣＭ時代の最高傑作といわれることも多いアルバムです。
このアルバムから、ｄｒにポールワーティコ、ｐｅｒ＆ｖｏにペドロアズナールが加わっています。サウンド的には、これまでのＰＭＧらしい爽やかさを残しながらも、静謐ともいうべき美しさを感じさせるものになっています。これには、パットメセニーを始めとするメンバーの作曲能力＆プレイが、ますます向上したこともあるのですが、新メンバーのペドロアズナールに負うところも大きいかと。彼の透き通ったボーカルは、ヴォイスという１つの楽器として使用され、そこはかとない美しさを、グループに与えることになりました。
ＥＣＭ時代の作品として、個人的には、前作の方が好きなのですが、出来の良し悪しではなく、趣味の問題です。それだけ、この時代のＰＭＧは、外れなしの傑作を連発していたといえるかと思います。

パット・メセニーはほとんど駄作がなく、本作が魅力溢れる作品であることは、他のレビュアーが既に述べられている通りですが、私が付言したいのは、本作の最後を飾る「賛歌」の存在です。落ち込んだ気分の時でもこの曲を聴くと気持ちを切り替えられ、常に気持ちを前向きにしてくれる本当に素晴しい曲です。パットのＥＣＭ時代の最後のアルバムの有終の美を飾るとともにパットの更なる前進を予告した、パットの数ある名曲の中でも指折りの作品と言えるのではないでしょうか。この１曲のために本作を買っても損はしないと断言します。
