SHMCDは、正直期待していなかったが、なかなかどうして、凄いでないの!ラジカセレベルでもわかる。特に初期の音の向上はめざましい。次回は初期のストーンズあたり期待したい、聴いてない人、本当に買い替え必須です。キンクスのアルバムも出たら買い替えます。

日本盤に追加収録されたM26は、IBMのCMに起用された曲です。

'66年発表当時に付けられた邦題がいまだに残されていますが、「I'm not Like Everybody Else」（自分は他の誰とも違うんだ！）という原題からは、たとえ変わり者（kink）と呼ばれても、大多数の支持を得ることがなくても、自分の好みや意思を貫き通すことを宣言した大名曲です。「ユー・リアリー・ガット・ミー」や「オール・オブ・ザ・ナイト」に代表される荒々しいギターリフを主体とした粗いサウンドのみならず、そのメッセージからして、キンクスこそパンク・ロックの元祖と呼ばれることを証明するに相応しい曲だと言えます。
今や英国最長老バンドの一つとなったキンクスの、この曲に込められた思いを地で行くような長く険しい道のりを振り返るとき、この初期の宣誓こそレイ・デイヴィスの生き様を飾りや偽りなく表現していたのだということを痛感させられます。

'60年代キンクス（所謂PYEレーベル時代）は前述したような初期のシングル・ヒットにばかり目が向きがちですが、実はそれらのＢ面にはオリジナル・アルバムには収録されていない隠れた名曲が数多く、私はそういった曲を発見することを通じてレコード・コレクションの喜びを随分教えられたものです。
この曲もそういったものの一つでしたので、キンクス自身も発表したまま長い間放置していたほどでしたが、そんなキンキー・マニアの声が届いたのかどうか、30年後の'96年になって初めて２枚組ライヴ・アルバム「To The Bone」の中で演奏されました。しかも、弟デイヴのリードギターを大きくフューチャーしたアレンジは、そのライヴのハイライトとなって、思わず涙がこぼれてきそうな感動的な出来栄えでした。

きっかけはどうであれ、このシングルＡ面曲集に例外的に追加されたM13のＢ面曲に、改めてスポットを当てる編集盤です。
