今なお音楽史に燦然と輝く、ＮＹロックの伝説的なバンド。当時ポップ・アートの旗手として人気急上昇中だったアンディ・ウォーホールのプロデュースを受け、1967年にデビュー。フィードバック・ノイズを多用したサウンドと、麻薬、同性愛などをもテーマにした前衛的な音楽性は、当時一部の人々にしか受け入れられなかったが、現在では、その後のオルタナティヴ・ロックの底流を決定付けた1枚として高く評価されている。

5.0 out of 5 stars 一生に一度出会えるかどうかのアルバム, 2009/8/29
ベルベットアンダーグランドのセカンド。前作は商業的に失敗し、ウォーホルとニコとのコンビを解消。今回はジョンケイルのアバンギャルドとルーリードのロックンロールの才能のぶつかり合い。本当に自分たちがしたかったことを思う存分にぶつけあった結果、その後ジョンケイルは脱退してしまうが恐ろしいモンスターアルバムを残してしまう。前作はバランスが取れたアルバムでしたが今回はジョンケイルのアバンギャルド面が強く出たアルバム。いままで数々のアルバムを聴いてきましたがこれを超えるアルバムにはまだ出会っていません。ベタなコメントですが「シスターレイ」は神ですね（笑）

ヴェルヴェット・アンダーグラウンドと言ったらファースト‘バナナ’が有名だが、その後のロックに与えた影響力、衝撃度の大きさは間違いなくコレが一番。

どの曲も鳥肌モノであるが、その中でもシスター・レイの破壊力は凄まじい。
フィードバックノイズを撒き散らす、調和、妥協することを知らない2本のギター、へヴィに歪む暴力的なオルガン、そしてルー・リードの今にも襲い掛かってきそうな唯一無比のニヒルなボーカル・・・・
そしてその音の洪水の中吐き出されるように歌われるのは乱交パーティの情景・・・・　　　戦慄を覚える驚愕の17分である。

まさにロックというフィールドでしか創造し得ない芸術がここにある。
40年たった今でも全くスリルが失われていない。
オルタナティヴ・ロックの源流というべき孤高のアルバムだ。

当時チャートの底辺をうろうろしていたヴェルヴェット
が今まで残っているのはこれが「作品」だから。
バッハやヴェートーヴェンが時を越えたように
