1969年にデビューした“スワンプ・ロック”の雄。クラプトンの大ヒット曲「いとしのレイラ」にも参加したギタリスト、デュアン・オールマンを中心にした泥臭いブルース・ギター・ロック＝スワンプ・ロックを生み出した。デュアンの事故死により打撃を受けたが、残されたメンバーと新メンバーによってバンドは活動を続け、数々の名作を生み出している。

エルモア・ジェイムス、T.ボーン・ウォーカーらのカバー曲を含む全7トラック計78分。通して聴くには根性が必要だ。

1曲めからスライド・ギタリストとしてのデュアンの魅力を凝縮している。また、泥臭いブルースナンバーが多い中で、メロウな「ストーミー・マンデイ」も聴き所。だが、この盤の1番の魅力は、やはり「ウイッピング・ポスト」。スタジオ盤ではコンパクトにまとめられているが、ここでは20分にも及ぶ。これがこの曲の本来あるべき姿なのだろう。名曲が、ライブにより新たな命を吹き込まれた瞬間。

他のライブテイクも追加収録したCD2枚組の改訂盤も出ているが、思い入れではこれ。この作品の前では、名盤という言葉すら陳腐である。

やっぱりアナログと同じ曲順、曲数がしっくりきますね。
コンプリート盤は長すぎるので
オールマン初心者はまずこれをよく聴いたほうがいいです。
LP時代におこづかいを貯めて2枚組アナログを買ったことを思うと
今はいい時代ですね。
これと「いとしのレイラ」のCDを一緒に買っても3,000円ちょっとですからね・・

１曲目の「ステイツボロ・ブルース」、 気持ちよいほどのスライドギターが炸裂します。 ２曲目は、ちょっと渋めのブルースのスタンダード 「ストーミー・マンデイ」など、泥臭いブルース演奏、いいですね。しかし美しい曲も演奏しています。「エリザベス・リードの追憶 」や「ホットアトランタ」では、デュアンオールマンとディッキーベッツのツインリードで、非常に美しく絡みます。どの曲も長い演奏ですが、ライブですから聴き応え十分です。ディッキーベッツとデュアンオールマンのツインギターだけでなく、グレッグオールマンのヴォーカルとキーボードもギターに負けずがんばっています。初心者は、何度も聴くとだんだん病みつきになってくるでしょう。名盤です。
