●1970年発表。クリーム解散後、プロデューサーにデラニー・ブラムレットを迎え豪華ゲスト陣を配して制作された初のソロ・アルバム。デラニー&ボニーやレオン・ラッセルらサポート・メンバーの顔ぶれも豪華で,以後のクラプトンのスタイルをうかがわせるレイドバックしたムードにあふれている。デレク&ザ・ドミノス結成のきっかけとなった作品。

【アーティストについて】
60年代前半にジェフ・ベック、ジミー・ペイジとともにヤードバーズに在籍。ブリティッシュ・ロック３大ギタリストと称された天才ギタリスト。クリーム、ブラインド・フェイス、デレク＆ドミノスなどの活動を経て、ソロに転進し、今なおトップ・ギタリストとして最前線で活躍中。

７０年発表、エリック・クラプトンのソロ・デビュー作。
最近ではソロ・アーティストとして有名なクラプトンですが、
ヤードバーズ、クリーム、ブラインド・フェイス等の名バンドを渡り歩いてきた後、
初めてソロとして発表した作品が本作です。
全曲クラプトン本人がリード・ボーカルを取っています。

軽快なリズムが楽しいインスト曲「スランキー」。ホーン・セクションとゴスペル風のコーラスが聴いていて気持ちいい「家から遠く」。
シングル・カットもされたアップ・テンポの「アフター・ミッドナイト」。
アコースティック・ギターのカッティングと、美しいコーラスが聴きモノの「イージー・ナウ」。
ソウルフルなボーカルが印象的な「ブルース・パワー」。のどかな雰囲気の漂う、メロディアスなナンバー「ラヴィン・ユー、ラヴィン・ミー」。
そして、このアルバムの目玉となるのは名曲「レット・イット・レイン」。
美しいギター・リフと入魂のギター・ソロ。ライヴでも定番となっている曲です。
曲名の似た「レット・イット・グロウ」というのもありますが、どちらも名曲です（『461オーシャン・ブールヴァード』収録）。

ちょっと一息入れたいときに聴きたくなるアルバムです。
やはり「レット・イット・レイン」が群を抜いているような気もしますが、
全体的にリラックスして演奏を楽しんでいるのが伝わってきます。
そのため、クリームのようなへヴィなサウンドはここにはありませんが、
後の名盤『461オーシャン・ブールヴァード』や『スロー・ハンド』へと繋がる音楽性を見せます。
デラックス・エディションも出ているので、お金に余裕のある方はそちらもどうぞ。
