１２曲入っているかのような記載ですが、ボーナストラック無しです。
なので星３つです。
ボーナストラックを期待して購入したので、がっかりです。

　ニューウェーブ一派の中でも他と隔絶しつつあった独自の音世界を遂に完成させた作品。シルヴィアンの美意識に貫かれた音楽に蛇行するファジーなリズムが絡むことでそれらは発現している。特に本作のドラムとベースの動きは"The Art of Parties"で象徴的な和太鼓と横笛に似た間合いの探り合いのようで、その不規則な間隙をボーカルとキーボードが擦り抜けていく様は素晴らしくスリリングだ。

　ミックカーンの躍進ぶりも特筆もの。"Still Life in Mobile Homes"や"Visions of China"で執拗にボーカルに絡み付くベースリフや、自作曲ではないにも関わらず下腹がねじまがりそうになる極低音のフレットレスベースが牛耳る東洋的インスト"Canton"など、彼なくしては再現不能な曲が多い。シルヴィアンとの自尊心を賭けた戦争が勃発するのもこれでは仕方なし、ではあるが、この緊張感があったからこそ今もって全く色褪せない傑作が可能になったように思う。人により好き嫌いがはっきりする作品かもしれないが、ベース弾きなら聴いておきたい作品。

JAPANは一風堂の土屋昌巳さんが参加されてから知ったので、最初に買ったアルバムは次の「OIL ON CANVAS」というLIVE盤でした。
この「TIN DRUM」は最後のスタジオレコーディングアルバムです。
まず、一曲目のオクタバンの音にやられます。
タムを多用したドラムパターンとスライドを多用したベースフレーズが中心となって、SE的でありながら必要不可欠なシンセとギターのカッティングとフィードバックが構築していくトラックをデヴィッド・シルビアンのボーカルが繋いでいく…最高です。
「OIL ON CANVAS」での土屋昌巳さんのギターも痺れます。
ぼくがイギリスの音楽に憧れるきっかけになったアルバムです。
