いろんな年代層に受け入れられる、ジャンルの広い歌の数々。隆一さんが、隆一さんの声で、届けてくれる珠玉の歌たち。名曲をどう隆一色に染め上げているのか楽しみです。

彼の音楽の原点は歌謡曲にあると思う。歌謡曲は大衆に愛されるものとしてあり、誰にも理解できるというのがその魅力。でも、それを聴き手にきちんと伝えられるかというのはやはり歌い手の技量が問われる。
このアルバムを聴いていると、河村隆一という歌手の技量は相当なものだなあとつくづく。前のレビュアーの方も書いていましたが、彼の歌というのは好き嫌いがはっきりと分かれるものだと私も思います。しかし、そうファンでもない私が聴いていても、感嘆させられるものが確かにある。一つ一つの歌の世界を表現できるのは、圧倒的な歌唱力のせいのみならず、これらの曲たちを誰よりも愛しているという自信もあると思う。
とかくキャラクターがナルシストなことが言われがちですが、ある意味歌い手はナルシスティックな部分を持っていなければ絶対に聴き手の心を掴むことはできない。顕著に表れているのが５の「オリビアを聴きながら」だった。この曲は周知の通り女性の立場で書かれたものですが、河村隆一は男性の立場でこの曲を歌っていると感じた。男も、こんな気持ちになるものなのだよ、と。
また、９の「恋の予感」では、きっと、何度も反芻するようにこの曲を聴いてきたのだろうな、と思わせるものがあったし、１３の「愛燦々」に至っては曲の理解力に脱帽させられるものがあった。また、個人的に大好きなレベッカの「Virginity」では、演奏がだいぶ原曲と違ったものになっており、歌唱も大きく流れるようにのびのびとしたものだったけれど、それでも詞の内容にマッチしていたせいか、違和感は感じなかった。
できれば、第二弾も出してほしい。その際、絶対にセールスを狙ったものにはなってほしくない。今回のこのアルバムからは、本当に彼がこれらの曲を愛しているのが伝わってきたから。

隆一はすごく好き嫌いが分かれるボーカリストだと思います。私はこの個性が強い、ちょっと聴いただけで「あ、隆一だ。」とすぐわかる歌声が大好きなんだなぁ〜と、このアルバムを聴いて改めて思いました。彼が作るメロディーも好きですけど、やっぱりこの歌唱力、表現力に一番惹かれているんだろうな。興味を持った方は聴いてみませんか?彼の歌声、ハマったら癖になりますよ(笑)
