MISSING PERSONS結成のため、J.WETTONのASIA加入の誘いを断ったとされるTERRYだが、この作品での“叩き”は強烈！ブレッカーズのライヴ、ザッパ時代も当然凄いが、3人だからこそやってやらなくちゃというような気合の入り方。加えて、UK1枚目の曲での演奏は、B.BRUFORDとは全く異なる呼吸というか、上半身を前後に大きく動かしながら叩いている姿が目に浮かぶようなTERRY自身の空間の解釈が伝わってきて、昔は入手困難だった1枚目より先にこれを聞いていた私は、1枚目を聴いてもこっちのほうが全然いいじゃんって感じでした。A.HOLDSWORTHが脱退したことでかえってバンドにスペースができて「暴れる」ことができたのが良かったのかな…。
プログレだけど、ポップで聴きやすい作品。ただし、E.JOBSON、J.WETTONも凄いけどTERRYのプレイに度肝を抜かすこと請け合い！ドラマー諸君は必ず聴いてみてほしい作品。

今となっては奇跡的な顔ぶれのJOBSON, WETTON, BOZZIOによる、
トリオでの来日公演時のこのライヴ盤。
編集も非常に上手くなされていて、古臭さをまったく感じさせません。
時代的にはプログレはもはや終焉を迎えつつあったのに、
このステージ上での高品質な彼等の熱演はいったい何だったのだろうと、
今更ながらもったいなさを感じます。
まさかこの約3年後に、
あのASIAが世界中を驚愕させるとは当時誰も予測できなかったでしょう。
ただしこのライヴ盤を聴く限り、結果論ではありますが、
それも充分に予測できてしまうほどのポテンシャルなのです。

以前、プラケースで何度か発売されていたが今回紙ジャケで発売である。オリジナルLPは1979年。

昔っからのプログレファンは1stの4人をベストメンバとする人が多いが、僕はこの来日公演メンバである
ジョン・ウェットン(vo.b)
テリー・ボジオ(dr)　←　正確でパワーのあるドラムだ！
エディ・ジョブソン(key,vio)
の構成が僕は好きだ。ビル・ブラッフォードのパワーの無いJazz的なドラムって、クリムゾンキングのころからあまり好きではない。

サウンドは、作曲がウェットンであることから、ASIAと似ているが、ASIAほどポップではなく、変拍子・半音移動もありありでコアなプログレファンもUKが好き、という理由がわかる。

この日本公演、会場は日本青年館、招聘元は今はなき代々木の「音楽舎」。テリー・ボジオとエディ・ジョブソンが美形だったことから、音よりもルックス優先の女の子がたくさん来ていて、男性ファンが怒っていたね。

1.Night After Night　←　3分40秒くらいからのOrganが良い！
2.Rendezvous 6 02　はASIAでも必ず演奏するバラード
5.Alaska　から　6.Time to Killのつながぎ・両曲に共通する変拍子
7.Presto Vivace　から　8.In the Dead of Nightのつなぎ・両曲に共通する変拍子
とか、重厚なシンセ音が好き。
典型的British Progre RockのKeyサウンドである。

1stではホールスワーズが弾いていたフレーズをライブではジョブスンがkeyのフレーズを弾きながら同時に弾いていた。すごい！
なんでASIAではジェフリーを起用したんだ？
※　イングウェイはKeyのフレーズをGuitarで弾く。
