レッド・ホット・チリ・ペッパーズを聴いてて、いつも思うことはアンソニーと
フリーとジョンってのは同タイプのアーティストなんだよな。この3人は感性が
似てるような気がする。チャド・スミスのドラミングはなにか異質だ。だがそれが
いいスパイスになってると思う。とりわけこのアルバムを聴いてるとそう思う。

このアルバムは良くも悪くも「ジョン・フルシアンテwithレッド・ホット・チリペッパーズ」ですよね(笑)今までのジョンって「泣く」ギターって感じだったのがこのアルバムは「唸る」ギターって感じ。今までは時にボーカルのような、時にハモリのようなギターでメチャ弾きしてないのにインパクトのあるギターをプレイしてた感のあるジョンが、このアルバムにかぎってはアンソニーを妨害するかのようにメチャメチャ弾きまくってるんでちょっとウケますよね(笑)ジョンはこれまでもハモリが綺麗すぎてたびたびアンソニーを食ってた(おいしいとこ持ってってた)んですが、「とうとうギターまで使い始めたか」ってツッコミ入れたくなりました。ただ、やっぱりジョンは天才だと思います。これだけのメンバーの中でここまでの才能を爆発させるんですから…(相変わらずハモリもすげぇし…)たしかにジョンのギターを全面に出したことによりファンク色やグルーブ感は薄れてしまったかもしれませんが、ジョンがメチャ弾きしてるのに曲が綺麗におさまるのはやっぱりフリー&チャドのレベルの高さあってのことだと思いますし…そして、わかる人はわかると思うんですが、地味に一番びっくりしたのはアンソニーの歌唱力が上がったってことです。今までは勢いで歌ってた感があったんですが、力を抜いて歌うという簡単なようで難しい技術を身につけたことにより、ボーカルの安定感が格段に上がってます。ただ、やっぱりカリフォルニケイションとかバイザウェイを満点としちゃうとこのアルバムは若干劣りますよね…攻撃的な曲もレッチリにしては綺麗だなって感じだし、曲順も「う〜ん…」って感じだし…まぁでもレッチリだからこの評価ってのは間違いないですね。他のバンドだったらベスト盤って言われるくらいのクオリティだと思うんで。このアルバムで「満足いかない」って評価受けてる時点でレッチリはすごいですよ(笑)

このアルバムの凄さというものが、ますます分かってきたような気がする。
いや、２００６年、発売と同時に購入して、
「凄い！チリ・ペッパーズの最高傑作だ！」と、何十回も聴いて、そう確信していたんですが、
このアルバムの素晴らしさは、あれからかなり経過して、やはり「ああ、これって、凄いアルバムだったんだ」と、認識できたような気がするのです。
彼ら、チリ・ぺッパーズは、これからも、凄いアルバムを作っていくことでしょう。
しかし、それでも、決して本作の価値は揺らぐものではありません。
そういう意味で、本作の位置は「ブラッド・シュガー・セックス・マジック」に近いものです。
彼らの地力というもの。
それが本作です。
また書きますが、彼らはこれからも、本作以上の名盤を作っていくことでしょう。
しかし、本作以下のアルバムは、もはや作れません。
この「ステイディアム・アーケイディアム」が、彼らのユニヴァースですから。
決して「ダニー・カリフォルニア」だけのアルバムではありません。
全２６曲、捨曲など、ありません。
断言いたします。
