2005年夏にリリースされた「Fijacion Oral Vol.1」が、Billboardにおいて、全編スペイン語アルバムとしての最高位を記録。同年末には、続編の英語アルバム「Oral Fixation Vol.2」を発表したバイリンガルシンガー、Shakira。

本作はその第２部作目に新曲を加えた再訂版。英語アルバムとしては、Shakiraの名を一気に世界に知らしめた2001年の「Laundry Service」以来であり、注目度は高いです。

恋人への復讐心を歌ったユニークな先行シングル、「Don't Bother」が示している通り、ラテン系のサウンドが溢れていた１部作目と比べると、ロック／ポップ色の強いアルバムです。

中でも、レゲトンのリズムに乗せた、Shakiraの情熱的で官能的なヴォーカルが冴える「Hips Don't Lie」は、大ヒット曲「Whenever, Wherever」にも通じる、彼女の持ち味が最大限に発揮された曲。元FugeesのWyclef Jeanとのバランスの良い掛け合いが、互いを高め合っています。また、「Whenever, Wherever」で見せた腰フリも健在です。「Voices From The FIFA World Cup」に別バージョンで収録されたこの曲は、Billboardで自身初の首位を獲得。

注目なのは、Santanaとの共演を果たした「Illegal」。Santanaの泣きのギターと、Shakiraの絡み付くような歌声がとても合っています。他にも、エスニックな雰囲気をもった曲や、「Your Embrace」などのバラードソングがアルバム全体を引き締めています。

現代のミュージックシーンで、他に類を見ないポジションに位置するShakira。このアルバムで再び世界を沸かせます。

シャキーラのこのアルバム、「Hips Doｎ't Lie」を気に入って購入したのですが、思ったよりロック色の濃いアルバムですね。ゲストにカルロス・サンタナが参加している「illegal」(結構おとなしめに奏でています）、「Don't Bother」なんかがいい例でしょうね。けど、やっぱり「Hips・・・」がかっこいい！ワイクリーフ・ジーンとのデュエット、サイコー。この曲はこの夏の一押しになりそうです（みなさんもこの曲を聴きながら彼女と車でドライブしてみては？いい雰囲気になれると思いますよ！）。
それ以外では「Animal City」,「Hey You」なんかもお薦めです。一昔前で言えば、ベリンダ・カーライル（元ゴーゴーズ）の曲が好きだった人はすんなり受け入れられるのではないでしょうか？ベリンダよりもちょっと色っぽいかな？このアルバムならきっと日本でも売れると思います。
今度は是非、ワイクリーフ全面プロデュースのアルバムを作って欲しい！と思っているのは私だけじゃないはず・・・・。
