『ローマの休日』から4作目でオスカー女優のオードリーのミュジカル初主演だったが、相手は30年代、40年代のステップの名手フレッドでは役不足のような気がする。二人の年齢さ30歳でラブ・ミュージカルというのはどうかな？
この時オードリーは波に乗っている50年代のトップ女優で、いろんな役にチャレンジさせたかったのでしょう。ストーリとしては面白いし、彼女はローマよりパリが良く似合うね。歌が上手くないって言う人が多いが、マリリン・モンローよりは上手いと思うけど・・・・。

ファッション界を舞台に、トップモデルへと変貌する書店の娘とカメラマンの恋を描くロマンティックなシンデレラ・ストーリー。パリの名所を背景に、華麗なジヴァンシーの衣装を着こなすオードリーの姿には、始めから終わりまで唯もうウットリ！の作品です。
そして、この作品はオードリー・ヘップバーン出演作の中で、唯一のミュージカルという意味においても貴重な作品と言えるでしょう。「マイ・フェア・レディ」では、歌う場面を撮影したのにもかかわらず全曲吹き替えでしたし。踊りの名手フレッド・アステアと共演ということもあり、オードリーの意気込みが伝わってくるような熱演です。でも、ニューヨークのプレミア公開時には、彼女が歌う‘How Long Has This Been Going On?' は、削除されていたとのこと。　オードリーにとって、歌はよっぽど鬼門なんでしょう。決して上手くはないけれど、これだけ歌えれば先ずは合格点をあげたいですし、優雅で軽快なミュージカル・シーンを是非堪能したい作品です。

歌うシーンはちょっと下手なところが可愛いです。あれだけ綺麗な顔をしてて歌までうま過ぎてもどうかと思う。彼女はそのへんのアンバランスが魅力なんだろうと思う。髪型もすごく似合っていて可愛いけど日本人では絶対に似合わないだろうね。パリもストーリーもとても洒落てて、若い子ほどこういう映画を観ておしゃれになってほしいと思うな。
